Because another loss or two, and a leave of absence will be needed. Could it start on January 20th?Who will take the L's? Collins? Dawkins? Wojo?9 days

I said this they day I saw Paulus in the McDonald's All american game, and realized he would be the undisputed starter
1/11/2007 11:31:52 AM
haha i said this to a duke fan last nightpoor guy doesnt take them losing so well. after i said it he threw his playstation across the room and broke it in half.
1/11/2007 11:36:36 AM
duke fans are pretty much all bandwagon fansi know that all those nerds are that into basketball, b/c we have nerds at state and none of them give a fuck about any of our sport teams
1/11/2007 3:45:51 PM
I say Wojo will graciously take the Ls to keep the win percentage prestine for Coach K.
1/11/2007 3:50:10 PM
^^that is because nobody actually attends duke. it is all myth and legend, there are no students because no one can, in reality, afford to go there.
1/11/2007 3:55:45 PM
little known fact: duke, aside from playing home games in cameron indoor stadium, also has another home court. its called madison square garden
1/11/2007 4:02:10 PM
^ yeah I told someone that when they played Gonzaga earlier. It was definitely a home game
1/11/2007 4:07:50 PM
^Marquette? not Gonzaga...UNC lost to the zags in MSG
1/11/2007 4:09:15 PM
Probably be an even bigger turnout at the meadowlands.
1/11/2007 4:10:25 PM
duke actually beat zaga this yearsomehow(and lost to marquette)
1/11/2007 4:12:26 PM
1/11/2007 4:18:37 PM
Duke'll be fine. This is def a down year, though. The last two games (esp Paulus' shitty performance) have been painful to watch.
1/11/2007 4:22:56 PM
yeah, i can see how unfair it was not to count the losses during the 94-95 season against K since he WASN'T ON THE BENCH. HE DIDNT COACH THOSE GAMES. but yeah, i can see how it makes him an arrogant asshole if the L's werent counted against him.
1/11/2007 4:28:10 PM
these current Duke players are going to be great, just maybe not this yearif anything else, a few of the bandwagon fans, like Plato, will be weeded out
1/12/2007 12:55:28 PM
^ Can you say which ones, and if McRoberts is the go to guy for a title contending program, with a guy like Paulus trying to feed it to him, that's a disaster. Scheyer is about 1/5 of where Redick was at the same point in their careers, and Nelson is the only player I think who will play more than 2 seasons in the NBA, unless McRoberts develops a jump shot.
1/12/2007 1:11:15 PM
they are not contending for a title this yearbut they ARE still Dukeso give them that respect and what the fuck does being a bandwagon fan have anything to do with this conversationgod damn, i know a ton of people who didnt and dont go here and still pull for us
1/12/2007 1:22:10 PM
1/12/2007 1:24:04 PM
Does it really matter? They're still gonna wipe up the floor with us.

that impressive for a guy to make up back problems, have surgery and the whole 9 yards. i can see him now sitting in his office over a decade ago. "man we just arent that great. how can i get out of it? how can i get out of it? um........well im completely healthy but if i just make up some back problems, im out free! hell yeah, what an idea!"
1/12/2007 1:54:39 PM
jesus you are dense. The whole thing is a joke.. it's fun to make up derogatory shit about rival programs.
1/12/2007 1:59:54 PM
I'm surprised he hasn't "fainted" yet.
1/12/2007 2:04:21 PM
things are fine and are going to get alot better if paulus doesn't continue to play his worst basketball ever. theres been too much pressure on him the whole time. gt was the first ever road game for the freshmen
1/12/2007 3:15:31 PM
^ ready to concede yet champ?
1/12/2007 3:17:17 PM
I'm sorry but Paulus is not the second coming of Bobby Hurley.
1/12/2007 3:20:26 PM
Paulus is not the second coming of engin atsur
1/12/2007 3:24:43 PM
Paulus should reconsider and get to the football field as fast as possible. Duke sucks but if he wants any type of pro career he should be playing football. He could still play basketball and dukes football season would be over at the end of november. #1 qb recruit out of high school.
1/12/2007 3:51:41 PM
he was also a #1 pg recruit. we see how that is turning out.
1/12/2007 5:38:36 PM
He had a chance to play both sports at Notre Dame.Exclamation PWNT!
1/12/2007 5:40:48 PM
To be fair, I'm sure he has the chance to play both sports at Dook...although I'm not sure he'd stay healthy for basketball season.
1/12/2007 6:05:35 PM
nope..when he was recruited by duke it was with the understanding that he would not be allowed to play football while on basketball scholarship.
1/12/2007 6:06:47 PM
Press conference today?
2/12/2007 8:02:27 AM
Dook has wins over Air Force, Gonzaga, Georgetown, Indiana, Davidson (winning the Soutern Conference, and BC.I've said it before but even with a 7-9 Acc mark they are still in (RPI 14, SOS 5) an early exit from the ACC tourney makes it iffy though.
2/12/2007 9:50:25 AM
we should enjoy this while we cancause it ain't gonna last long
2/12/2007 9:51:36 AM
duke has too many white dudesthe black athelete is the future
2/12/2007 10:11:43 AM
The problem with the Pete Gaudet situation is that Duke has been a great program for 19 of the last 20 years. The one year they were terrible, K comes down with back problems in the middle of it. At best, it's a huge coincidence of the timing of his back troubles. Maybe he felt bad about it and decided to give the two guards a job, pretty good jobs too. One question, If Duke had been typical Duke, say (12-4, 29-6 ish) would he have waited until the offseason to fix his back???
2/12/2007 10:12:43 AM
^ that depends on how bad it was, I mean was he in a car accident, or was it just like a pinched nerve
2/12/2007 10:20:41 AM
^^^ i can't tell if you're sarcastic or a dumbass
2/12/2007 10:32:53 AM
can't i be both?
2/12/2007 10:44:06 AM
pocketduces, I don't recall any car accident, what I recall is him saying the stress and overtime hours of coaching got the best of him and his wife was asking him to step away yada yada yada. Now, at this point in his life, he was younger than 50 and had been the head coach at Duke for less than 15 years. Winning cures a lot of ills, it's a question of do you think if they were winning like Duke had done, would he have sat out, or proceeded another 2+ months.[Edited on February 12, 2007 at 11:53 AM. I almost got in a fight with a Duke friend of mine over this. To the grave, I will always believe that Coach K bitched out of that season and threw Gaudet under the bus. I really feel that he didn't want to have that gliche of a season on his record. They are mediocre-to-good this year...so I don't think they are bad enough for him to pull another "Gaudet."

2/12/2007 12:28:22 PM
9 days after meeting with his team to step down for "exhaustion" and "back trouble", Coach K hosted Vince Carter for a recruiting visit. Vince was quoted in SI (before he committed to UNC) that Coach K was up and about and looked fine.[Edited on February 12, 2007 at 1:15 PM. Reason : .]

I believe that since he coached few games of that season, I believe those games that he coached should be counted on his record. As for the Duke fans on this board, how many of them actually go to Duke. Cheering for the school you don't go to is lame. If you like them so much, then go there.
2/12/2007 2:30:10 PM
^ or ask them to name 5 football players to have ever played at Duke University
2/12/2007 2:32:14 PM
2/12/2007 2:32:57 PM
^are you implying that state is better at academics than duke?

2/12/2007 2:47:09 PM
^^ UNC is a higher rated public school than NCSU. That doesn't mean you'd go there for Engineering.. I'm sure NC State has certain programs that are better than Duke..
