I'm currently listening to Fox News Radio on 101.1 FM. It's entertaining I'll grant you, if you enjoy listening to belligerent conservative... no, extremist opinions on US politics. I was just curious if, other than NPR, anyone can reccommend a more moderate or liberal news/talk station on local radio that isn't dull as crap.

You should check out the allen handelman show. Its on the same radio station you listen to from 4-7pm. His radio talk show is always fresh because he talks about different topics instead of politics all the time. He very respectful of your comments and doesn't get irate if you disagree wit h him about something.

Rush Limbaugh... believe me, he's entertaining. AM680 noon to 3

101.1, 91.5, and WCHL-AM — 1360 are all presets for talk I have currently set in my car. Hearing fox news on one end and air america on the other kinda puts npr as the moderates for the talk stations I can pick up.
1/11/2007 11:50:22 AM
Try AirAmerica...oh no wait, they went bankrupt...
1/11/2007 12:37:40 PM
npr and air america are only different in that the US government charges you for the liberalism spouted off on that sorry excuse for a radio station.
1/11/2007 12:39:13 PM
since when did news without people yelling opinions become such a bad thing?
1/11/2007 1:16:45 PM
^ No one will deny NPR has a slight liberal bias, but there's a world of difference between NPR's bias and the blatant right-wing propaganda spewed on Fox News and its affliates. NPR has a moderate tone, and if you disagree then try LISTENING to it and judge for yourself. I bet most of the people bashing it for being liberal haven't ever tuned in to it in their lives...
1/11/2007 1:18:10 PM
That isn't news...that is talk radio.There is a difference.

Care to post some of this documentation?

^^we're forced to pay for the pro-america propaganda station in the middle east.

presuming that anything anyone says isn't biased is naive.

some of npr is most definitely talk radio.for instance: talk of america and the diane rehm (sp?) show
1/11/2007 3:37:18 PM
But it isn't talk radio in the sense of Rush, or Hannity, or Bill O'Reily

1/11/2007 4:07:15 PM
We paid for those fake news releases about Head Start, too.
1/11/2007 4:17:31 PM
The only real Fox part of 101.1 is the Fox News news breaks every 30 mins or so, all of the programming other than that is simply talk radio. I think Neal Boortz is hilarious to listen to at least, and Clark Howard on that station is good money sense. There's always 680 AM but thats pretty much only conservative talk radio.
1/11/2007 4:17:40 PM
^^^Talk radio is defined as shows such as Air America, Rush, and Hannity. NPR falls into the news/entertainment sector
1/11/2007 4:19:49 PM
1/11/2007 4:20:59 PM
^ Since you brought up the semantics, allow me to weigh in.NPR is a radio station that hosts some talk radio shows.Air America is, too.Your other examples are specific talk radio programs that are broadcast on other stations.
1/11/2007 4:26:22 PM
i agree that nutsmackr gave a retarded definitioni personally think any radio station that has, i dunno, talking all day instead of music is talk radio?although i guess npr does play some little classical music blurbs here and there so they're not 100% talk radio[Edited on January 11, 2007 at 4:36 PM. Reason : .]

Talk radio has been classically defined as political radio.
1/11/2007 4:41:30 PM
^orly?
1/11/2007 4:43:55 PM
i guess all the sports talk shows arent talk radio according to nutsmackr since they dont talk about politics
1/11/2007 4:44:37 PM
that's sports radio, not talk radio
1/11/2007 4:46:25 PM
you're pretty much wrong throughout this whole thread
1/11/2007 4:47:52 PM
if you want to use your dumb definition, npr talks about politics a lot.
1/11/2007 4:48:10 PM
I'm pretty much spot on.
I guess (insert rock and roll station here) is talk radio since Bob Dylan talks about politics in his songs
1/11/2007 4:50:21 PM
wow, twista pulls out the classic strawman argument.
1/11/2007 5:00:02 PM
you sure do like throwing around the term strawman when you are backed into a corner dont you?you're probably the only person on TWW who doesnt think NPR is, for the most part, talk radio
1/11/2007 5:01:52 PM
the merriam webster defition:
1/11/2007 5:03:37 PM
so to summarize, talk radio usually has:- conversations between host(s) and listener(s)- talkingno mention at all in the definition (obviously) of terms such as:- sports- politcal
1/11/2007 5:04:50 PM
NPR depends on what part of the country you live in. In many places, the NPR stations are almost strictly music.
1/11/2007 5:16:28 PM
really? i havent been in those areas i guess (i believe you)...but in north carolina as far as i know, all the NPR affiliates are pretty much talk radio
1/11/2007 5:17:16 PM
no. npr is programming that stations subscribe to.for help, from npr's website:
1/11/2007 5:18:21 PM
oh ok...i figured when i would have it on one of their stations and it was classical music that they were getting a feed from a different provider...like how some sports radio stations have local shows then also broadcast national shows...oh well
1/11/2007 5:24:23 PM
depends on the show, some comes from PRI and others from NPR
1/11/2007 5:26:42 PM
If you want people who just make some damn sense then listen to Brad & Britt in the morning. It is funny though how now they have wingnuts calling in and e-mailing screaming they won't ever listen again because they claim Brad & Britt have some kind of liberal bias now. I have also slightly warmed up to Neal Boortz even though I disagree on his with his environmental position I think that he has some solid ideas.
1/11/2007 5:48:01 PM
you will find that life has a liberal bias
1/11/2007 5:52:20 PM
Paul Harvey has been on the air for a long time.... it's true.
1/11/2007 7:08:06 PM
Michael Savage is pretty unbiased
1/12/2007 12:37:10 AM
hahahaunbiased
