i searched and couldn't find any topics on this. anyone out there had this done? if so where did you have it done and what body part and what was the cost? i've been wanting to get this because i hate shaving and waxing.

http://www.dermatologypros.com/content/index.pl

^has anyone ever been to that clinic? their laser hair removal prices seem really low, but i have no idea what the avg. costs are.

any input is appreciated!

yeah, this one ncsu student was going to get this done, and she died.

So, definitely go for the cheapest one you can find.

yeah, the place she was getting it done at was here in Raleigh, and she just had problem with the in-house prescription cream she put on beforehand.

The only thing I know about laser hair removal is that not everyone's a good candidate.

You should find out if you are a good candidate.

thats crazy..but hopefully there are better warnings for people now about the lidocaine. they used the same stuff on me when i got my belly button pierced...i guess she just used way too much of it. scary...but wouldn't keep me from getting laser hair removal.

and about being a candidate, the ideal person has dark hair and pale skin. the lighter your hair or the darker your skin the less effective the laser will be i think.

You shouldn't need topical anesthetic for a laser.

i've condidered it on my neck. Can they do that? I know I never want to grow a neckbeard...so I can get rid of that forever without any regrets.

If your hair is blonde it wont work. I looked into it about 2 years ago at my dermatologists office. She said the darker your hair is the better it works. It also kinda hurts and can take more then one go round to get it done.

I go to Raleigh dermatology

I'm kind of curious too. That dermatology pros seems really cheap. I would have expected it to cost more than that, then again, i have never seen any other prices for it.

I'm curious as to why the hair color has anything to do with how effective it will be?

"Melanin is considered the primary chromophore for all hair removal lasers currently on the market. Melanin occurs naturally in the skin (it gives skin and hair its color). There are two types of melanin in hair: eumelanin (which gives hair brown or black color) and pheomelanin (which gives hair blonde or red color). Because of the selective absorption of photons of laser light, only black or brown hair can be removed."

If you're not a candidate for laser hair removal, you can still get electrolysis.

^They'll absolutely remove that hair for you. Permanently. A few to several sessions and you won't have to worry about it again!

I wouldn't mind getting some hair removed permanently. Those 10 pesky chest hairs are sometimes annoying

I highly recommend Sona Med Spa off of Jones Franklin. I know several people who have gotten 90% of their body done, and I have gone there as well and have been very pleased with the results thus far.

It usually takes an average of 4-5 treatments for the hair to be gone forever, and they can only be done every 3 months so if you aren't planning on staying in the area for a while then it might not be for you.

^I've been thinking the same thing.

Somewhere around 3-4 years ago I developed a condition where I get these really big bumps from my jawline down because of ingrown hairs. I tried all the advised tricks as far as not shaving against the grain, keeping a sharp razor, etc. And nothing worked. It seems as though a certain portion of the hair growing on my face is really really hard and somehow gets trapped below the surface, causing the bumps. So the Dr suggested laser removal to try and thin the hairs down.

I had 3 treatments at $150 a pop. It thinned it down a lot, though I still have plenty of hair on my neck. I wonder if that is because I don't have very dark pigment. I still get the bumps, though not as frequently, so I am contemplating going back for some more treatments, because like you guys, I'd be fine with no hair growing on my neck.

Check out Sona Med Spa... if you want a lot done at once they'll work out some good package deals for you... seriously though, do not go with "cheapest is best" in this field... go check out a few, get facility tours, sit down and talk to their pro's and their in-house doctor. If you don't see LOTS of state certifications then bounce.

Seriously though, visit a lot and go with the place you feel is the best. Also, ask for testimonials or reference you can call and talk with. Lots of places that have past clients that will chat with you on the phone about their experiences.

http://www.amedispa.com/ is a client of my company... let me know if you go with them and I may be able to send a discount card your way... not sure if it applies to laser hair removal

It doesn't work. I mean, permanently at least...it was great for a while. I had 5 rounds (for $850) and it lasted about 6 months...what happens is that the laser permanently disables the hair follicle's that are currently growing...but not the ones that are not growing. And your body constantly produces more hair. So you get rid of 5 rounds of growing hair, but eventually more will grow.

^^It does affect everyone differently though. I've heard of people going 5 times and having hair grow back...I've also had a best friend go 5 times and she's still hair free (2.5 years later)...
