What's the best way to go about doing this? I've never had to move one before, and while it'll be "easy" enough getting it out of my old place (has an elevator), I live on the 2nd floor of my new building (no elevator). Any advice is appreciated...thanks!

movers are the obvious choice here

but using a dolly should be easy enough if the stairs are wide enough.... they also have special ones for moving things up stairs also, i think anyway

Yeah, you can rent a utility dolly for $10/day from UHaul. It has a heavy duty strap and rollers on the upright part of the dolly that make it easy as hell to get down flights of stairs. Just have to make sure the door/stairs are wide enough for it to be slid through (not at an angle).

Strap it to a hand cart, preferably with inflatible tires and the conveyer belt thing on the back that lets it roll even if you lay it down. You can pull it right up the steps as long as you are strengthy or you have someone pushing as you go up.

dryers are light as hell, just bulky

it's the washer that's a bitch

and make sure to tilt the washer back to drain all of the water out. slosh it back and forth to get all the water out of the nooks. otherwise you'll have water all over your new carpet. take it from me...

yeah - I know home depot has appliance dollies for rent (I had to do this before). You want to make sure it has a strap on it for chiching it down tight. Makes it easy as can be.

They sell those furniture-moving straps that go over your forearms and under the Washer or Dryer...but really they aren't that hard to move with 2 strong backs.

^^^ He's right on about that. If you have a friend, then it's not really that hard to carry either up one flight of stairs assuming it is a traditional set. If they are really expensive front loading pieces, then I'd go with renting a nice dolly just to be safe.

just pick the damn thing up and carry it up the stairs. I've moved several that way. move the washer first, since it's heaviest.
