Anyone know much about them?I pulled out my alpine b/c I love it and am going to get it installed in a new car. I installed the stock eclipse stereo. The car also had all but two speakers replaced when I got it done. So I find out i had to buy a reverse harness kit, which i did. I did color to exact color. Plugged everything up and still no sound. the stereo works, the cd player works. I am going to see if Best Buy knows whats wrong, but i can't figure it out and I am not exactly wanting to spend $50 to get it all fixed, but I will if needed. thanks in advance for the help.

could you just not unplug the aftermarket harness (one end plugs into factory harness and other end plugs into your alpine) and plug the factory harness back into the factory radio?

I knew you would answer i had to buy a reverse kit b/c the harness for the alpine was smaller and would not fit into the stock.its just odd, exactly the same wires and no sound...

haha and yes, this is going to sound idiotic, but i didn't install the alpine. from what i can see they did have a harness going from the stock to the alpine size, but what happened is that they pulled the pins from the original harness. Thats why the best buy guy told me to buy basically the stock harness piece again and to it color to color, which i did but its still not working.

pull all the wires out of the hole as far as you can and take a picture for us so we can be on the same page

You need to do continuity tests on the speaker wires to figure out what is what. And you'll need the factory pinout diagram to MAKE SURE that you're connecting the right wires.Color-to-color works in a LOT of cases, but there ARE exceptions.

^yep, as in my bmw, blue to white instead of blue to blue.

ok here they are, don't laugh at my attempts! seriously if someone knows, or can fix this for less then $50 let me know, I will most likely be comming to raleigh this week to see friends.

you used fucking electrical tape. there better be solder underneath the tape. god damn. no wonder it doesnt work[Edited on January 5, 2007 at 12:24 PM. Reason : ]

^ seriously wtf? cut that shit off to the stock harness and start over, if you have a stock radio plug and a wiring diagram, which i can send to you if you need it, then it doesnt take long to fix[Edited on January 5, 2007 at 12:25 PM. Reason : and isnt that residential speaker wire?]
1/5/2007 12:24:33 PM
THEY did it like that, and then i copied them. but regarless, they shouldn't i still hear something...even static?ok and can someone fix it or should i just take it to Best Buy and let them do it for 50?also why would i start with the stock spearker wires if I had new speakers installed. If i do it stright from the stock i wouldn't have the connection for the new speakers.[Edited on January 5, 2007 at 12:28 PM. Reason : ok]

they installed new wire with the new speakers? i think he was saying cut off all those shitty splices and go back to the stock wiring harness and redo everything from there

i dont know where the 20 seconds comes from, you need a new soldering iron
1/5/2007 1:16:00 PM
What kind of iron are you using, maybe I'll buy what you have.

What year eclipse?
1/5/2007 2:57:40 PM
looks to me like they ran new speaker wire, and the old ones are hanging loose, did you hook up the player to the stock wires, or to the new speaker wires, that would explain why you have no sound if you hooked the player up to the old wires which arent connected to anything

any 30w iron will do it quickly and put off enough heat to do the heat shrink too[Edited on January 5, 2007 at 3:13 PM. Reason : about $15 at radioshack]

^^ that guy does up to 10 gauge like a champ
1/5/2007 3:17:12 PM
^^ Simply not true. I have a 45w RS, along with a digitally adjustable Hakko. With 20 gauage wire braided together (effectively a 14-15 gauge strand), using a relatively new tip, I'm sitting there for a good ~30 seconds and more (depending on how careful I am to get the tip onto the wire correcltly) waiting on it to heat enough for the solder to flow through effectively.Using my Hakko cranked up usually gets it hot enough quicker, but it also manages to causing the insulation to melt and peel back too.Using Butane on a bench top works well enough I suppose, but forget trying to use it in a cramped space in a car. It's fine if you guys want to stick to your guns, but I've done it enough to know who is right and who is wrong. Feel free to a rebuttal.[Edited on January 5, 2007 at 3:20 PM. Reason : a]

maybe my 30w is fucked up then! all i know is it works great!

depending on the year and model of eclipse it is possible it has a factory amplifier... Check under the Passenger seat for a big metal thing(the amplifier)... If this is the case and it has not been bypassed you many have not reconnected the amplifier remote turn on wire.... Wires should be(from a reverse harness) The wires on your car may very I can print out a wiring code for your car if you give me a make an model...red-+12V Accessoryblack-GroundBlue-Power Ant.Blue/white-Amp Turn OnYellow-+12V constant

it is an 01 and i did hook up the new speaker wires not the old. ^ going to check for that now...[Edited on January 5, 2007 at 4:02 PM. Reason : its an 01 gt eclipse ]

i took out my seat found the stock amp, hooked everything back up. and tada Nothing!Swung by best buy and they said they could fix it, so I think monday i will take it in. I just like trying to fix and figure things out, and thought it would be easier than this but I guess not...I am giving up, but if you have any idea i will try it before then.
1/5/2007 8:14:30 PM
Hooked everything up how?
1/5/2007 9:03:32 PM
^^that's why you buy from crutchfield, they give you everything you need to do an install. If you have an amp, at least with one install I did it came with a jumper/amp bypass.I also have the 45 W (max) radio shack iron handle with 35w iron a very old copper tip that is mostly gone, but it still heats 14-16 gauge wire in about 5 seconds, and I use extremely thin (0.015 in dia.) Silver Bearing solder.

^ so the point of you restating someone elses opinion as your own as a summary of a thread is what?god damn you are one stupid fuck
1/6/2007 12:15:05 PM
Restating an opinion? You mean, restating a fact (you know, it's pretty easy to see from the pictures)? Pointing out again that there is new wiring running to new speaks and the old wiring hooked into that isn't producing sound in relation to the fact that maybe the old system was amped ,in an effort to debug the situation is me being a dumb fuck?So not only are you an ogrish looking mongoloid, you have some random dudes on the internet cock hung in your mouth, but you are also severely mentally challenged? You might want to get that checked out.

I will try to get you a wiring diagram by 2morrow... that should tell you which wire to hook up to get the amp to turn back on which shold in turn give you your sound. I would recommend a multimeter for this job. Just test the wire at the factory amp for 12 volts when the car is on(it probably wont be there)... find the same color wire behind the radio and test the 2 for continuity(sp?)(aka if they are the same wire)... if so you can hook up the yellow/or red to test to see if you get some sound to come through if so there should be a blue w/ white comming off the reverse harness from the factory radio... hook that up(if there is not this wire then just hook up the red as long as it is a true Accessory)... PM me if you need some more help... just please dont take it to best buy... they will charge you an arm and a leg and probably screw up your car more...(I know i worked with/had to fix their work for 2 years)
