We need to have it like back in the recent past where we would have different guest singers doing the Star Spangled Banner before tipoff. The band is weaksauce.
1/4/2007 4:05:45 AM
singers make it twice as long though
1/4/2007 4:20:05 AM
^ I think I know where you're going there, but I'll add...taking longer to honor the country is a bad thing?
1/4/2007 4:42:31 AM
but then they would just forget the words and Sidney's counterpart would help them out and become everyones hero.
1/4/2007 5:17:47 AM
i nominate carl lewis
1/4/2007 6:20:44 AM
i don't think there are singers anymore because the students always yell "Red" and "Wolfpack" during it and the University hates to come across as disrespectful to everyone but their own student body
1/4/2007 7:14:00 AM
^ that is exactly the reason, and I hate whomever makes that decision with a great passion.
1/4/2007 7:25:21 AM
yeah the singers are trying to bring it home and we're all...........and the home of the ..... WOLFPACK!!!! i love it[Edited on January 4, 2007 at 8:46 AM. Reason : but yeah the band blows long time]
1/4/2007 8:45:48 AM
I remember going to the Dean Dome my senior year in high school, Archie's last year when we beat them pretty solidly both games, and the RED and WOLFPACK were just as loud there as they were in the RBC. 'Twas a thing of beauty.
1/4/2007 8:51:43 AM
Not wanting us to yell red is why they do that stupid trumpet run at that part, I'm pretty sureIt never sounds on-beat to me
1/4/2007 8:57:25 AM
It's been a tradition for at least 30 years. How do they plan to stop it?Send out emails to freshman again?
1/4/2007 9:16:41 AM
again?when did they send emails out about it
1/4/2007 9:17:57 AM
About two to three years back administration sent out an email trying to discourage people from saying "red" and "wolfpack" during the national anthem.I wish I would have saved it.
1/4/2007 9:30:45 AM
oh yeah i think i remember getting that now
1/4/2007 9:33:07 AM
I know I may be a tad older than most who post on here, but does anyone remember a game back in 2002 or 2003 that the microphone kept going out on the singer of the National Anthem? As the microphone was breaking up, the crowd started to sing the anthem, and near the end the microphone came back on. The crowd and the singer were totally not in sequence, and the girl singing looked like she wanted to cry once it was over. It was pretty funny, yet embarrassing for her!
1/4/2007 9:35:14 AM
Forget the celebrity singer. Just have the band play it and the crowd sing it.
1/4/2007 9:44:12 AM
^ i agree
1/4/2007 9:47:21 AM
I'm all for that idea PROVIDED that the RBC starts serving beer on NCSU basketball nights.I'll bring down the house all by myself.
1/4/2007 10:02:14 AM
isn't there some NCAA rule about not selling beer during games?
1/4/2007 10:17:41 AM
^ I want to say there is, but I also want to think that there are some colleges that still sell beer at athletic events.
1/4/2007 10:25:23 AM
without the words being provided, half the people who used to yell 'red' don't know where they are in the songexcellent strategery by the administration--RBC sells beer until 30 min before tip off i think...you have to drink it in a little holding pen, too[Edited on January 4, 2007 at 10:27 AM. Reason : +]
1/4/2007 10:26:51 AM
If people are determined to continue disrespecting the National Anthem with the yells, just because they can, then just stop playing the anthem. There's no law that says you have to. I've never understood why we have to play the Anthem every time someone puts on a jock strap, anyway.
1/4/2007 10:38:11 AM
There is no NCAA rule against alcohol at games. It is a school rule.
1/4/2007 10:40:02 AM
^^You DO realize that the Star Spangled Banner was a drinking song before it became our national anthem......right?
1/4/2007 10:46:48 AM
Yes...the melody was a British beer-drinking song called "To Anacreon in Heaven."What's your point?
1/4/2007 10:51:58 AM
from NCAA executive meeting from last year:
1/4/2007 10:54:51 AM
thats disrespectful, never did like it, then again, I grew up in a really patriotic, military family, and my mom still cries everytime she hears the national anthem
1/4/2007 11:12:56 AM
Alcohol is banned at games by conference. Some conferences have different rules than others. Also, the ban usually only applies to the venues owned/opperated by the schools. If you've noticed during the bowl games this week, a TON of people are drinking beers at the game. They are however at venues not owned by NCAA member scools.
1/4/2007 11:23:53 AM
Im pretty sure we still have singers who do the national anthem. If you remember in years past, the band does most all the early games because all of the bandwagon fans dont show up to non-conference games. For the bigger games we have someone singing it.
1/4/2007 11:28:57 AM
Every generation in my family is full of marines and none of them are bothered by it.Truthfully, I wish we would get our shit together and sing it like all those drunk Canadiens do their anthem at hockey games but I've already listed the key missing ingredient.
1/4/2007 11:47:37 AM
^^^what about the orange bowl?
1/4/2007 12:14:22 PM
1/4/2007 12:24:32 PM
1/4/2007 12:26:42 PM
I cringe every time I hear the band play the National Anthem. that damn trumpet sequence is the most god-awful thing, it actually pains me to hear it.
1/4/2007 12:34:18 PM
^^ how awesome would it be to have our National Anthem sound that way before games? I can't think of a better way to sing the National Anthem than have everyone in the RBC singing it in sequence like that. Also it would make the emphasis on RED and WOLFPACK that much better as well.
1/4/2007 12:37:53 PM
dangit i think the old multiple page thread about the red and wolfpack yelling, that this one is about rehash, got purged
1/4/2007 12:38:03 PM
1/4/2007 5:27:40 PM
HAHAHA
1/4/2007 5:31:06 PM
about the beer stuffwhere is the guy that lives up in west virginia or virginia and went to the NC State/WVU game, he said they had beer there[Edited on January 4, 2007 at 5:51 PM. Reason : they do the red stuff at hurricanes games too]
1/4/2007 5:50:01 PM
The students barely yell "red" and "Wolfpack" anymore...it sounds like maybe 10 people when it happens. It was all because some ECU fan complained about it a few years ago and everyone jumped on the "NC State fans hate America" bandwagon. Ironically, the "red" is very noticeable at Hurricanes games, yet no one seems to be bothered by this at all. Ive also notice there has been no ROTC colorguard recently...didnt we used to have that? Or was the last game a fluke because class is still out or something?
1/4/2007 7:51:08 PM
^ probably just a fluke, i noticed that too last game, i was like first we can't get a singer and now we can get the color guard
1/4/2007 7:52:39 PM
NC State's Pregame rules.....[Edited on January 4, 2007 at 7:59 PM. Reason : d]
1/4/2007 7:59:38 PM
haha
1/4/2007 8:02:27 PM
oh shit, you bit on the fake....
1/4/2007 8:02:55 PM
It's not a conference thing, FSU sells beer at their games
1/4/2007 9:25:37 PM
^ I was under the impression it was. and I didn't know FSU sells beer at their games. Sorry. Also, I didn't notice any alcohol at the orange bowl or during it on tv, but I wasn't looking for it. It was very obvious they sold Miller products during the Sugar Bowl last night though.Color Guard has missed two games over break, this last one and the ECU game I believe.Me personally.... I sing the whole national anthem every game, I don't have a great voice, but If everyone would do it I support it!
1/4/2007 10:12:07 PM
RED
1/5/2007 9:32:03 AM
I nominate the NCSU cop to come sing.. he's pretty damn good
1/5/2007 10:53:54 AM
