I can receive emails, open ,and read them with thunderbird, but it is not letting me send emails, saying it is having trouble connecting to the server, I use RR off campus, I checked and everything is set up correctly from the instructions fromt he university with my outgoing server being smtp-server.nc.rr.com. Anyone know how to resolve this, thanks.

I don't know, but for some reason smtp.ncsu.edu works off-campus for me. Give that a try.

Thanks for the suggestion, I tried but no dice, last week, my connection to the internet stopped, and I looked and saw that I was not on the my wireless connection, how I don't know, so I switched to the right SSID and Im thinking that may have something to do with my thunderbird not being able to send??? I have also checked all firewalls and things like that, seems to be good there too. Thunderbird still uses IMAP and not POP correct?[Edited on January 4, 2007 at 12:34 PM. Reason : .]

Thunderbird can do both, I think you'd want to ask what your service uses, and NCSU email uses IMAP. But for the sending of mail Thunderbird uses whatever smtp server your internet service uses, so I don't know why RR's address won't work unless you need some credentials to use it. Make sure it's not still defaulting to a different outgoing server, like if you lived on campus, make sure it's not still defaulting to smtp-resnet.ncsu.edu or anything.
