seems like the most interesting/diverse area on the planet i had never heard of it until now.

koalas
seals
cave systems
desert-"the little sahara"
lagoons
coral
shipwrecks
lighthouses
beaches
giant lobster
unique rocks/plants
worlds only pure ligurian honey bees (sweetest honey)
penguins
and of course all types of marsupials

all on a small island with 4000 residents.

the climate is warm but the penguins survive because the water is cold. cold water and warm temperatures make for the unique climate thus interesting georgraphy and wildlife

I wouldn't call it the most diverse area on the planet and whether or not it is the most interesting is a matter of opinion, but yes it is a really cool place and I have heard of it before.

There are many islands in the world with fascinating wildlife and landscapes that are rarely talked about or known commonly; I've been interested in islands across the globe for awhile now and people rarely (if ever) know what or where I'm talking about if I happen to mention the more interesting ones. You might also like the Ashmore and Cartier Islands and Christmas Island (which is a popular island for zoological research) off of Australia.
