For savings, you're not going to do any better than an online "direct" money market account, through somebody like ingdirect.com, hsbcdirect.com, or emigrantdirect.com.As far as checking, there isn't a whole lot of difference between banks, unless you have some specific needs. I would avoid Wachovia, who has a reputation for trying to make money off of fees, rather than by investing your deposits. What banks are convenient to your location? You might want to look into First Citizens.

so anyone had an troubles with Bank of America? for simple checking ?

in my experiences, most of the big banks all work the same way, so ive always gone with the bank that is most convinient. wachovia has always been closest to where ive lived, so ive had them for a while. i dont mishandle my money, so ive never had a problem with getting charged fees or anything.

I've never had a problem with Bank of America. They do have very low rates for their checking and savings accounts, so I'd start up several different accounts--A local "everywhere" bank such as BoA that you have easy access to.An online high-yield savings account such as one with HSBCDirect (5.05%) or ING.You shuld be able to link the accounts to move money back and forth.

Bank of America is full of blood sucking shitbags, i would never let them see a cent of my money. They have low interest rates, will rape you in the ass on overdraft charges and fees. Not to mention the company my dad worked for went out of business and BoA had a big part in putting them under. BoA owed my dad's company $1.5 million as part of a contract to do business with. They delayed and delayed payment for services owed and for a small company 1 million was a lot of $$.

I use BB&T and have never had a problem.

Our family does some buisness w/ wachovia and has never had problems. if you were in NC i'd say NCSECU is your best option

Bank of America works fine for my checking account, i don't have any added fees with their standard checking account... i would recommend them for that, but i would keep your savings elsewhere to get a better interest rate (like everyone else has said)

Not sure if they have Virginia locations... check their site. But all of my business stuff is with Fidelity Bank... they're small and deal locally pretty much. You very rarely will talk to someone who is not sitting in your local branch. They've been PHENOMENAL for me - I'm switching all of my personal accounts to them shortly.http://www.fidelitybanknc.com
