The Fed government seems to leave a few anonymous ftp servers up here and again. I found an interesting collection on the internet (I can reference: http://www.ftp-sites.org/anonymous_ftp_sites_list_gov_1.html) and was wondering if anyone had tried logging into the servers and had found anything interesting besides a more direct way to get your weather report.

well not on the gov't ones. the russians, poles, and asians would just scan for days on end and find open/hackable sites, post em, people filled em up, and they'd get whored for a week or 2 until they were shut down[Edited on December 29, 2006 at 3:12 PM. Reason : keep in mind this was around 2000 when half the windows users of the world were runnin IIS]

^Everybody should run a web server on their personal computer! What's wrong with you man!?I remember somebody posted in a thread awhile back about NASA getting an upgrade to their systems and making a part of it (both storage and CPU time) available to the public. I don't think this is it, but here's a link to NASA stuff: http://nssdcftp.gsfc.nasa.gov/. Write an image analyzer program, and find me some aliens.

while I never really got deep in the "scene" I lurked on the fringe, and I don't recall .gov ever being desired, .edu seemed to be longer lived and correlated with a lower occurance of black vans parked across the street from your housereversing .gov for an IRC vhost usually was pretty funny, but doesn't require the targetted domain to be compromised nor does it involve "hosting leet 0day shit"oldschool.edu was old school
