I'm building an LCD projector using a freebee LCD monitor whose backlight had burned out.

In the original monitor, the backlight fit directly up against the LCD and all of these boards were screwed in behind the backlight. To use the monitor for the projector, I have to move all these out of the way (so I can project light through the LCD), which is mostly not a problem because they are mostly connected by flexible ribbons. The problem is that the board that is directly connected to the bottom of the LCD panel and the one connected to the side of the LCD panel communicate via a unique L-shaped coated plastic ribbon that cannot reach both boards when the boards are folded out of the way of the LCD. How can I get around this? should I cut the ribbon and attempt to solder wires along each communication path? can I buy a ribbon that will fit these connections somewhere? I have no idea whether such hardware exists...

you should be able to find a longer ribbon without too much problem. I have no clue what the technical name is for them, hopefully one of the CE/EE guys can chime in with that.

definitely not going to be a good idea to cut/solder an extension though

noen i saw you were looking at macbooks and decided to pursue something else.

what did you get? im sort of looking into the laptop direction and would like to do as little research as possible ...hahaha
