The ones from Capalert are even better:http://www.capalert.com/Check out the South Park movie review:http://www.capalert.com/capreports/southpark.htm
12/23/2006 7:28:11 AM
yeah, capalert is pretty sillyin the author's review system, tattoos and piercings count as "offenses to God"
12/23/2006 8:09:41 AM
Leviticus 19:28 has a line about tattoos:"Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you;"It's the old "body as Temple" argument.Anyway, I used to read these sites a lot and laugh at how dumb they are. Then I realized that they're purposefully written in the interest of Christian five year olds. You can't argue with cursing, nudity, and drug use being beneficial viewing for a five year old, even if it's being using to support a message or a satire.

^ not really.See what we would call "kids" that shouldn't see these things we think of 5 year olds, 10 year olds, whatever, actual kids, depending on the content. Most people are like, yeah, that's probably not good for them. mostly because the point of it is above their heads, or the content is a little much. But a lot of conservative (mostly christian but not all) families, take this too far. I knew 2 kids once of the ages of like 7 and 9 who weren't allowed to watch any TV but veggie tales, even disney kids movies were "bad". They were the most naive children I've ever laid eyes on, and I dont mean that in the cute and innocent good way. In the I'm so sheltered I'll never SURVIVE outside a sheltered little christian environment. They also have this habit of using "kid" to refer to anybody up to 18 or 21. shield the eyes of the 16 year old from rock.hell, I did not even KNOW what music was untill i was 18 or 19, because all I heard was gospel and so called christian rock. And some james taylor and oldies (which is real music but you cant say it's nearly all of what's out there). On one hand, yeah the reviews are funny. On the other hand they're pretty sad becasue there are huge groups of people being raised missing out on both a lot of the good things in life, and being taught a lot of bullshit (I do not refer to christianity itself, but thinks like "D&D will send you to hell" and "wiccans sacrafice babies and drink their blood" both of which I have been told verbatim in a church whe I was thankfully old enough to at least go "huh? no way" and question it...)

From the original site, Clerks II:

^^ Perhaps because I've never been in a church environment, I'm making a mistake by taking the reviews at face value. At face value, they seem like they're a pretty simple summary of objectionable content by Christian standards (ignoring the amazing amount of sex and violence in the Bible, of course). In my mind, the listing can be used as a fairly accurate representation of what's literally on screen, regardless of context that's over the heads of small children, as an aid to parents' decision-making. At the same time, I suppose I should realize that the same philosophy that resulted in these black-or-white reviews is probably used in raising the children that they are supposedly written for.

like you say, you've never been in a fundamentalist environment, so you wouldn't know that ADULTS use these reviews to dictate their own viewing habits.you have a point that movies like Elf and Grinch might not be appropriate for a five year old (maybe), but unfortunately, the reason I know about this site is that one of my coworkers used the review of those movies at http://www.pluggedinonline.com to tell me that he wouldn't be able to watch it. It was "filth" he said - see for yourself:Grinch:

“oh my g--.”
12/23/2006 12:49:15 PM
lol these reviews hilarious, more so because the ppl writing them are serious
12/23/2006 1:05:21 PM
The Grinch is not acceptable for any human being. What a piece of shit.

The sad part is this reminds me so much of my childhood. I remember my video game hobby being in serious danger because of the "occult" undertones of Super Mario Bros. Card-playing could get you in trouble if the wrong adult was around. Ugh I'm glad to be out of there.
12/23/2006 2:26:01 PM
haha..."son of a nutcracker" is a mild profanity
12/23/2006 5:10:15 PM
^^^ well i'd agree with that, but i believe the two conclusions were arrived at with very different approaches

It's kind of like all the groups wanting to boycott McDonald's for all kinds of economic, environmental, and animal rights reasons. While I'm boycotting McDonald's because it sucks.
