I'll never forget when David Thompson came in and spoke for my high school sports history class. Our teacher was a male cheerleader for UNC when they won their national championship with Michael Jordan (he was also the cheerleading coach at our school and wasnt gay amazingly) and was a close friend with Thompson.

He came to our class, we watched some of his highlights and he gave a little speech about his college career. Then we went to the school gym and had a free throw competition against DT, with everyone in our class shooting to see who could make the most out of 10 free throws against him. I never knew who he was before that day, but he was so nice and still great at bball (I think he missed 2 or 3 shots the whole day) I have forever been in awe of the man

true story

He was a more complete player than Pete, and got his numbers in a much tougher conference while sharing the ball more readily than Pete.

He invented the alley-oop, and who knows how much more dominant he could've been if the Alcindor rule hadn't limited his ability to go hard on put-backs and the like.

Pistol Pete should have been at NCSU.

For the few random times NCSU stood firm on academics, that should not have been one of those times.

His dad, Press was coaching at state, and went to LSU after NCSU indicated that Pete did not meet the university's requirements for admission. I'm pretty sure there was an article about this in the wolfpacker a few years back about this.

I don't think he ever coached at broughton. he was at clemson before he came to state, and took over after Case stepped down due to failing health.

pete maravich would've played at state if his dad, press, wasn't lured by louisiana state. shady recruiting, but legal.

More like Pete Maravich would've played for State if he had the numbers to get in. Damn ACC and its semi-high standards.

Quote :
". During his years at those schools, he wowed college scouts with his ability to shoot, dribble, pass and score points. It is said that Pete wanted to attend West Virginia University, but his father told him that if he didn't sign with LSU he could never come back in his home.[citation needed] And so, in 1966, Pete decided to attend Louisiana State University, and play for his father, who was the school's new head basketball coach."
