Okay i'm skinny and in moderate shape. Currently i'm running to improve my lungs and heart, but I would like to take some action on the abdominal area as well. as of now my stomach is soft to the touch, and i was wondering what exercises (crunches,etc...) would be best to do in order to tone up my abdominals some.

I'm open to any suggestions.

^^tried that. there wasn't much on there about abs, and thats my main focus.

^there are a lot of websites and there is a lot of available misinformation. It'd be easier for me to get information here from people who currently have routines they follow and know about the results. I'm guessing you'r a fatty gunz

from what i have heard and the people i have talked to; the thing about abs is that your going to need to run. period. It doesn't matter if you 10,000 sit ups a day, your going to have to run to get some of that fat off.

do sit ups, run, and diet. The abs and gut will be the last to go. I have lost weight on my upper chest and around my chin. Spare tire is down to a little bulge compared to what it use to be.

^i don't have much body fat at all, i'm roughly 12%. If you grabbed at my stomach there isn't much fat there to be had, its just that my stomach muscles aren't tone making my stomach soft to the touch. But i'm feeling what you are saying which is cool because i'm already running. But on top of the running some regular old sit ups would be enough to make the difference?

I run 2.0-2.5 miles and stationary bike 5.0-7.5 miles - 5 days a week.

I work out abs 3 out of those 5 days at the gym (usually the same day I do chest/upper). I had less than 10% body fat going in but I've begun seeing a difference. My stomach wasn't soft to the touch going in but I have begun to see some nice definition now. By summertime I should be golden.

I work cardio hard those days though. Not just a light jog or something like that..

----

What I do for abs is regular crunches on an exercise ball (20), situps on incline (12), and leg raises on the decline (12). I do these three with no breaks in b/t exercises, 3 times (though I do take a drink/short break b/t 'sets'. Someone will probably tell me I'm doing it all wrong but it works for me..

ab exercises....

weighted pullups (with good form), weighted dips (with good form), deads (variations), squats (variations (esp zerchers and overhead), rack pulls, military presses, various rows, the olympic lifts, good mornings, etc

do compound lifts and you will work them more than enough

just run, G. running and doing compound exercises and any type of supersetting will chisle your abs out, B. i took a 4 month layoff from any physical activity. now I smoke cigs like a chimney, pop pills and drink alot of liquor and the minimal workout efforts i do inspite of this are giving me results.

Abs are an endurance muscle. They don't follow the same guidelines that other muscles do such as 3 sets of 8 or 12.

Abs must be done in sets of 25-50.

^ not true. abs are just like any muscle the need proper rest and all to. the think is to get defined abs you don't necessarily have to work your abs to death. you can just lift heavy or even run. its your center mass, G. it gets worked out regardless. the key is the cardio for chisling that layer of fat. i recommend supersetting on your lifting, G and jogging.

abs should be worked like any other muscle you work, with resistance training (weighted decline sit ups for example)

200 sit ups, which translates more to endurance, means cardio would serve you better

that aside, the best thing you can do for your abs is watch your diet and drop your % body fat.

this seriously cannot be stressed enough

but also Start lifting weights if you aren't currently (compound movements: bench, deadlifts, squat) and do weighted abdominal exercises 2 times a week
