Brackets are much more exciting to watch but there are too many teams to have single elimination and get a real champion. the regular season pretty much doesnt matter in basketball. at least in football one of the best teams always wins it all. in hoops a syracuse or florida can win it all.at least the bcs is designed to have the best 2 teams play for it all. instead of the best 65.football would actually be more justified to have more teams play in a tournament than basketball because it is much harder for any team to beat any other team on any given day in football than it is in basketball. i think saying " a syracuse or florida can win it all" is stupid. syracuse is known for decent basketball program that chokes in the playoffs. NOT a terrible basketball team that makes runs in the playoffs..in fact they are pretty notorious for losing in the 5-12 and 11-6 games[Edited on December 16, 2006 at 4:19 AM. Reason : ]

I was talking about their championship.

i know thats what you were referring to but your wording was terrible "a syracuse" who generally has nationally competitive programs? (they had a good team that year too, a top 5 team in my book)that being said tournament >>> stupid BCS stuff imo[Edited on December 16, 2006 at 4:48 AM. Reason : ]

Just think of the entire football season as the tournament and your world is set.
12/16/2006 8:15:16 AM
That's a pretty retarded way to think about it.If the football season was a tournament then Ohio State would be playing Boise State.
12/16/2006 8:58:58 AM
I don't mean literally equate it to a ladder season, christ, use your brain a little. In the tourney, one loss and you are out.For football, just about every year, one loss and you are out. It's not quite that extreme (one loss teams playing for the championship), but it's close enough.

^^^that's not true of baseball. Maybe the other leagues since almost half the damn league makes the playoffs. But in MLB, only eight teams make it.[Edited on December 16, 2006 at 11:51 AM. Reason : ^]

see you guys are talking about excitement now. i thought i made it clear that this was not about excitement. of course giving 65 teams equall chance to win it all in the end is the most exciting thing ever but the article talks about fairly getting a champion.if the #40 team happens to win 6 games and win it all they are not the best team and dont deserve to be champions. this can't happen in football thats why the bcs is better. if the bcs had a plus one clause that would include teams like michigan this year and auburn 2 years ago but still only have ohio state and texas last year then it would be perfect.in basketball a team can win as little as 10 games total and be national champions while a team can go 35-1 and not be champions. that can't happen in football. the only situation where the best team isnt champion in football is when you get a situation like auburn but at least then one of the top 3 teams in champion guaranteed. there is no way its fair for 65 teams to play equally in a postseason for a championship.

winning the ncaa is just that. it's winning the ncaa. i don't think anyone particularly thinks it means that the champion is the best team in the country. that aside, it's damn fun to watch.

The BCS only has to send two teams to play for the NC and can't even get that right with consistency. At least in a field of 65, teams that are already expected to do well get further rewarded by playing teams that aren't expected to go as far.

A playoff in football would be MORE fair than the current playoff in basketball. Youre not going to have playoff of more than 16 teams, and that would include conference champs and at-larges that have no more than 2 losses. Yeah, in basketball you can suck all year but then win your conference tournament and the NCAA tournament...you cant do that with a football playoff. Even if a Wake Forest managed to win it all, you couldnt make a legitimate argument as to why they dont deserve the national title, given who they would have had to beat to get there. If its decided that a Wake Forest, USC, Oklahoma, etc, dont deserve a shot at the national title, then by that logic Ohio State should have been crowned on November 18th.
