just one night? i guess a whirlwind tour of walking and seeing some stuff is in order...use the tube/buses to cut down on travel time. I'd look at where everything is before hand so you can be sure to get the right buses/lines.

Tower Bridge
Tower of London
St Paul's Cathedral
Big Ben/Parlament/Westminster Abbey
Trafalgar Square
Buckingham Palace
Picadilly Circus
Pub

That's a lot of stuff that is a bit spread out

If you've got one day only, get on one of the double decker open top tour buses. You'll pretty much get to see all of the "must see" attractions in london in just a few hours and a guy/gal that gives you a rundown of the history/cool facts about it, etc.

Then spend the rest of the time drinking in a pub.

You cannot go wrong.

Avoid the Changing of the Guard at all costs. World's most overrated event.

If you can make it, the London Eye at sunset is amazing. But it looks like you'll be cutting that extremely close.

Remember not to mind the bollocks.

I know you probably won't have time, but its dirt cheap to get to pretty much anywhere else in Europe on RyanAir, if for some reason you can't kick that wanderlust while you're there.

i'm only going to be there one night, which would barely be enough time to tour london itself. plus i've already toured through sweden, denmark, and germany.

heathrow isn't really near tourist spots in london. by underground, it's probably 30+ minutes to any of the must-see things

oh, and i'm not sure if they raise the tower bridge every day, but when i was there last summer, i saw it go up at 6pm...that's pretty neat

That was awesome. I went to the one in York too.. not as good. I don't have time but I'll list a ton of cool things to do in a day there.. but make sure you make time for a good old-fashioned neighborhood pub though.. I recommend drinking and having dinner in a pub on the backstreets of Chelsea somewhere. Don't go to one on a main touristy area. It's awesome in the smaller ones..

[Edited on December 15, 2006 at 2:32 PM. Reason : chelsea b/c it's one of the safest neighborhoods in London..]

If you're only there for one night, skip the touristy stuff and just save that for another time.

Forget about pub food for dinner, it's not that good. Go to Brick Lane for dinner.

Don't go now. There is a modern-day Jack the Ripper there.

Fish & chips may be good for lunch or something quick, but I would highly recommend Indian for dinner. London may a fucking dirty ass city (trust me, I know) but if there is one thing it does do right it is Indian.

I seriously wish they'd open a late night curry stand near downtown... I'd be there at least twice a month.

we ate domino's & chinese when we were in london

everything is twice as expensive bc of the exchange rate and unless you have $texas the food is the same as here

Mr, wasn't aiming the suffolk thing at you...was for SSS and the ripper comment

if you can have lunch, get a Ploughman's lunch at a pub...bread, cheese, and branston pickle (that shit is so damn good - I got to UK/Scottish stores to buy it)

The best advice that I can give is to make sure that you are out of the cross walks when the light turns green. They don't wait for pedestrians there, like NYC but times a thousand.
