just one night? i guess a whirlwind tour of walking and seeing some stuff is in order...use the tube/buses to cut down on travel time. I'd look at where everything is before hand so you can be sure to get the right buses/lines.Tower BridgeTower of LondonSt Paul's CathedralBig Ben/Parlament/Westminster AbbeyTrafalgar SquareBuckingham PalacePicadilly CircusPubThat's a lot of stuff that is a bit spread out[Edited on December 15, 2006 at 9:05 AM. i always like going to the london dungeon whenever im there.

If you've got one day only, get on one of the double decker open top tour buses. You'll pretty much get to see all of the "must see" attractions in london in just a few hours and a guy/gal that gives you a rundown of the history/cool facts about it, etc. Then spend the rest of the time drinking in a pub. You cannot go wrong. Avoid the Changing of the Guard at all costs. World's most overrated event.[Edited on December 15, 2006 at 9:19 AM. Reason : ag]

If you can make it, the London Eye at sunset is amazing. But it looks like you'll be cutting that extremely close.
12/15/2006 11:19:57 AM
yeah, i've gotta check into my hotel before that, and then i think the ride into town takes a while.

Remember not to mind the bollocks.I know you probably won't have time, but its dirt cheap to get to pretty much anywhere else in Europe on RyanAir, if for some reason you can't kick that wanderlust while you're there.

i'm only going to be there one night, which would barely be enough time to tour london itself. plus i've already toured through sweden, denmark, and germany.

MIND THE GAP

heathrow isn't really near tourist spots in london. by underground, it's probably 30+ minutes to any of the must-see thingsoh, and i'm not sure if they raise the tower bridge every day, but when i was there last summer, i saw it go up at 6pm...that's pretty neat[Edited on December 15, 2006 at 2:38 PM. If you're only there for one night, skip the touristy stuff and just save that for another time.Forget about pub food for dinner, it's not that good. Go to Brick Lane for dinner.

Don't go now. There is a modern-day Jack the Ripper there.
12/15/2006 3:09:38 PM
take the metro everywherejust make sure that you stand up and yell "Allah akbar!!!" really loud randomly.
12/15/2006 3:35:34 PM
the metro? he's in london...you're looking for the washington, DC thread
12/15/2006 3:41:22 PM
ah dammit, i mean underground

12/15/2006 4:25:38 PM
well goddammittime for me to gtfo
12/15/2006 4:36:24 PM
i think i'm just gonna take the tube in and see westminster abbey, parliament, big ben, etc. walk around for a lil bit. i think there's a pub near my hotel and i really want some fish and chips
12/15/2006 4:45:59 PM
Fish & chips may be good for lunch or something quick, but I would highly recommend Indian for dinner. London may a fucking dirty ass city (trust me, I know) but if there is one thing it does do right it is Indian.
12/15/2006 5:35:28 PM
I seriously wish they'd open a late night curry stand near downtown... I'd be there at least twice a month.
12/15/2006 5:47:58 PM
we ate domino's & chinese when we were in londoneverything is twice as expensive bc of the exchange rate and unless you have $texas the food is the same as here
12/15/2006 6:08:52 PM
Mr, wasn't aiming the suffolk thing at you...was for SSS and the ripper commentif you can have lunch, get a Ploughman's lunch at a pub...bread, cheese, and branston pickle (that shit is so damn good - I got to UK/Scottish stores to buy it)
12/15/2006 6:14:47 PM
The best advice that I can give is to make sure that you are out of the cross walks when the light turns green. They don't wait for pedestrians there, like NYC but times a thousand.
12/15/2006 7:17:02 PM
dress up like a whore and wander around Whitechapel at night
12/16/2006 12:16:39 PM
yeah, didnt realize it was heathrow. you'll be in quite a hurry.take lots of pictures of crazy indian people. they always have bizzare mustaches.
12/16/2006 11:13:41 PM
good luck, you wont be able to see shit in a day, especially if you're in and out of heathrowbtw York > London by farrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
