for those of you interested in classical, or art music, feel free to come to this thread and make some requests, or just to expose yourself to music you may not have heard before

I have alot of piano solo music, and music by 20th century composers, but I am open to most anything

here's a piece to start off with, for piano solo

http://johntee.bread-and-butterfly.net/Music/Hindemith, Paul - Stretta (1920).mp3

^Playing Time for Stretta: 3:17

here's another piano solo piece by 20th century British composer Ralph Vaughan Williams

http://johntee.bread-and-butterfly.net/Music/Vaughan Williams, Ralph - The Lake on the Mountains, for piano (1941).mp3

this is a rare piece, considering that RVW wrote almost exclusively symphonic works

this work is serene and impressionistic

Playing Time: 4:17

a couple more piano solo pieces by Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos

http://johntee.bread-and-butterfly.net/Music/Villa-Lobos, Heitor - Floral Suite - I. Idyll in the Hammock (1917-18).mp3

Playing Time: 3:02

http://johntee.bread-and-butterfly.net/Music/Villa-Lobos, Heitor - The Legend of the Native.mp3

Playing Time: 3:35

both pieces have an impressionistic style, and are quite song-like and centered around melody

enjoy

here is one of my favorite pieces for piano, as well as one of my favorite composers, Maurice Ravel

this is his Sonatine, in three movements, as performed by Pascal Roge, written in 1903-05:

http://johntee.bread-and-butterfly.net/Music/Ravel - Sonatine/Ravel, Maurice - Sonatine - I. Modere.mp3

http://johntee.bread-and-butterfly.net/Music/Ravel - Sonatine/Ravel, Maurice - Sonatine - II. Mouvement de menuet.mp3

http://johntee.bread-and-butterfly.net/Music/Ravel - Sonatine/Ravel, Maurice - Sonatine - III. Anime.mp3

Playing Time: 11:53

I guess I'll stop posting for now and give you a chance to listen

hey man, can you upload Danny Wright's "October"

It's a contemporary piano solo, but it's absolutely beautiful. Not too technical, but the melody and the sense of timing are incredible.

now, time to listen...

Lark Ascending might be my favorite piece of music in the world.

I love Ralph Vaughan Williams, good choice on posting Lake In The Mountains...amazing piece. I'm a big fan of his chamber works as well.

yeah, that's the album

I've got the rest of it if you don't have it

also RVW is my dad's favorite composer, so he basically has his complete works (aside from the chamber and smaller works, which are more my favorite than his)

Just curious, have you heard any of Frank Zappa's orchestral works? I could probably post some here when I have access to all of my music when I come back to Raleigh on the 8th.

Here's some Zappa for those interested. The first two are from his last album he released while still alive, "The Yellow Shark," recorded with the Ensemble Modern.

http://www4.ncsu.edu/~ktcosent/dogbreathvariations.mp3
http://www4.ncsu.edu/~ktcosent/unclemeat.mp3

This last one was with the London Symphony Orchestra, and appears on the album LSO, Vol 1 and 2.
