okay, so i break up my 40gb boot drive into partitions as follows:2.5gb for windows1gb for page file22.5gb for programs10gb for linux1gb for linux swapi break it up like that because, in my experience, it makes a noticeable difference in performance...i limit the windows partition to 2.5gb because 1.) it's all that's needed and 2.) it SEEMS to make a difference, though i don't know for sure (putting the page file on its own partition is the single most performance-enhancing step IMO)anyway, i'm about to reformat again (all of "my documents" is on its own hard drive, so reformatting is relatively painless) and i thought i'd take the opportunity change partition sizes to accommodate vista, for when i upgrade next year sometimei haven't used vista yet, and so when i looked up the requirements for ultimate (i know that's top-of-the-line and all, but i wanted to go ahead and make sure i could handle it space-wise), it says 20gb is needed with 15gb free...how realistic is this? as i mentioned before, i don't have experience with vista, so maybe this hard drive configuration isn't even beneficial, but i figured i'd ask people who have actual experiencesuggestions for partition setup? thanks!

can someone running vista just tell me how much space their WINDOWS folder takes up?

so your C drive has always only been 2.5GB? Seems like XP takes that at a minimum, and some programs won't work unless installed to the C drive...how have you made 2.5GB work?oh and page files are for n00bs (and poor people) [Edited on December 12, 2006 at 11:15 PM. Reason : ]

It's generally retarded to stop using a decent page file.

^^^ thanks...i guess i'll just make it 10gb and be done with it^^ yeah, it's just 2.5gb...currently, with all updates (and sp2, of course), windows only takes up 1.9gb for me...i've never installed any programs that "won't work" if not installed on C...in fact, photoshop in responds noticeably quicker once i put it on its own partitioni don't really NEED 2gb of ram, otherwise i would probably ditch the whole idea of a page file, but hard drive space is a lot cheaper, and 2gb isn't worth the money for me at this point

^damn, thats pretty dumb in my opinion

no, i HAVE one, i just don't think it gets used...i can't imagine what i'd do to use a full gig of memory...i do photoshop, some dvd editing, music...most intensive game i play is oblivion, and that's a video hog, not really a system memory one*shrug*
