usually, by the time my tank is half empty, I've got more than 200 miles. It's at the halfway mark, and I only have 178. I bought the car the Friday before Thanksgiving, so I really have no idea what condition most consumables are in - except for fluids, because my dad checked those yesterday. I know one cause could be a dirty air filter. Other causes? How easy is it to check, and if need be, change an air filter? No owner's manual to check. Yet.

I thought you meant the mileage on your odometer. I was about to congratulate you on your bump in resell value.Sometimes Christmas really does come early!
12/11/2006 1:32:08 PM
could be driving habits or conditions. there are times that my mileage varies b/t 25 and 36mpg

id say, unless you have been driving at least 400 miles a week since you bought the car this isnt enough data to constitute a "plummet"youre talking about a 22 mile difference over the course of half a tank. you can be off that much just by warming up the car a few minutes longer every day and having low tire pressure. check the tires, the air filter, make sure the e brake isnt on, etc etc.
12/11/2006 1:53:42 PM
Are you calculating your mileage each tank and then controlling for differences in driving behavior?Gas gauges can get less accurate over time... the needle may fall quickly at first and then fall slower, or vice versa. The needle is not necessarily going to fall at a linear rate like it should.
12/11/2006 3:05:33 PM
is your check engine light on by any chance?
12/11/2006 4:09:49 PM
You haven't had the car long enough to know what kind of mileage to get on a regular basis.
12/11/2006 5:09:00 PM
its the cold weather, just add some air back to your tires
12/11/2006 6:39:11 PM
winter gas?

12/11/2006 6:53:28 PM
have you gained any weight??
12/11/2006 7:01:52 PM
Check and clean your 02 sensors. These help your car determine how much oxygen and fuel used for combustion. If these sensors are off, your car will be using too much fuel. My efficiency drops a lot when it's cold too.
12/11/2006 8:19:52 PM
doesnt mean a damn thing, an 11% change aint much, especially if you are going by the gas gauge, say you get 400 miles on a 20 gallon tank, thats 20mpg, at half a tank, slightly over could be 11 gallons and slightly less could be 9 gallons, which is either 180 or 220 miles, dont freak oout until you fill the damn thingup, and is its running ok, then deal with it, i get 11 mpg, thats barely 300 miles on $65 worth of gas
12/11/2006 8:26:13 PM
AHAHAHA I GET LIKE 17 AHAHAHAHAHAHA...YOU PUSSY WITH YOUR CHEBBY PUSSY MOTARD TRUCK AHAHAHAHAHA DIESEL ROX!!!
12/11/2006 8:31:09 PM
^loli wouldn't worry about it, mileage is going to vary some from tank to tank due to driving conditions.
12/11/2006 9:00:10 PM
^^ chill out with your 26" tires, and my damn tires/rims weigh 72 lbs each, thats a lot of shit to get turning or stopped with 3.73's, a regear is in store after christmas with all the loot i score
12/11/2006 9:20:31 PM
12/11/2006 10:04:59 PM
Mine went from ~340 miles per tank to 220 after an engine change Mechanics haven't given me a reason as to why other than saying the parts have to wear in, but that was a couple thousand miles ago
12/11/2006 10:34:38 PM
12/11/2006 10:50:34 PM
weird my gas mileage dropped from mid 20s to 12 mpg recently. it might have to do with the weather but i am going to put money on it being that i started driving a v8 jeep again and left the 325 at home. i miss the 325.
12/11/2006 11:44:21 PM
1993 celica gt coupe, hatchback or st coupe?the reason im askin st's rocked the rolla enginealso the hatchbacks are heavier yielding worse mileage. is it auto or manual? mine was manual.gt's rocked the camry engine. i got about 25-28mpg city driving with mine.. whew i miss that car compared to the 13-15 i get in the truck!the air filter on that car is so easy to replace if you bring it by me i could do it in 2 minutes. hell i think i have a cold air intake for it u wanna buy it [Edited on December 12, 2006 at 12:16 AM. also warmin the car up n the mornin
12/12/2006 12:52:16 AM
ST= hang on to the chilton's for COROLLAS that I accidentally bought?
12/12/2006 1:09:14 AM
12/12/2006 1:10:07 AM
the corollas and st celicas share a lot of the same parts.on my celica i could never go by the gas guage... the gas mileage never really fluctuated but the gas guage was shitty as hell at approximating how much i had left. after i filled up and drove 50 miles it would be at 3/4 of a tank then then 100 more and i would hit half a tank.. it was fubared up.warming up ur engine in the morning is going to suck gas away. maybe minimal but hey it's gonna.
12/12/2006 1:12:55 AM
^^
12/12/2006 1:13:02 AM
yeah you're pretty much fucked on that cold weather thing. You idle it and you waste gas waiting for it to warm up. You drive it cold and you get shitty mileage while the car is dumping in fuel during open loop...
12/12/2006 3:00:50 AM
^^yeah i was just trying to give her a hard time i've made a few garage threads and forgot to put that on the first post

1/23/2007 3:47:39 PM
u prob ate to much ya fat ass. its the weight behind the wheeli should know i weigh 260 so my shit gets shitty mileage, but at least i am not as repulsive as you!
1/23/2007 5:37:25 PM
this is a way out there guess, but have you noticed that your heater sucks lately? a bad thermostat can kill gas mileage.
1/23/2007 6:34:31 PM
^^yeah...miska != ambrosia1231 fucking faggot.
1/23/2007 9:49:51 PM
it was clear to me he was talking to you...
1/23/2007 10:06:12 PM
It is. What's also clear is that this isn't my issue anymore - misha bumped the thread.
1/23/2007 10:15:22 PM
so what fixed your car?
1/23/2007 10:19:48 PM
Scoop on your tranny?
1/23/2007 10:20:10 PM
my tranny...ehe They couldn't find anything wrong. I need to get the transmission fluid changed ASAP, though. I'm handling that tomorrow (just got it back today). They offered to open it up and check for problems and I'm thinking "$$$$$$$$$!" for a car that I paid $2200 for...oh, hell no.^^changing the air filter helped a little bit. I was overreacting. Of my last three tanks, I've been as low at 24, and as high as 29.[Edited on January 23, 2007 at 10:23 PM. Reason : dkjfg]

I swear, I bet your vehicle speed sensor is intermittently dropping out. I bet fi' dolla.BTW, thanx for not showing me chicks with dicks on that one...
1/23/2007 10:28:58 PM
Would I do that? I mentioned the speedometer jumping, and they said they never noticed it when they took it out. This was like when you call tech support for a problem, and when they try to re-create it, nothing's wrong. I didn't like that place at all though. The receptionist was a cunt, and when I said 'no thanks' to letting them rip into my car, she got this VERY snooty, clipped tone to her voice. After having checked whether they use email, and then told them I preferred to be contacted via email...they called. Several times.[Edited on January 23, 2007 at 10:32 PM. Here's the scoop: I don't live in town anymore, and though I'm usually up on the weekends, I'm swamped with stuff I have to do.I've had mattc's MR2 for going on 6 months, and am just getting around to getting it the hell out of my garage. Or rather, my roommate's (who has so graciously let me keep a lot of shit there) garage.Let's see what the weekend brings.
1/23/2007 10:35:57 PM
Where around here can I get a cheap shop scan tool or some tech to test drive my car to assess what's going on with my engine/fix it for me?
