ok so my GF has been denied from a lot of credit card companies because she doesnt have credit. but she has her own apt. and pays her bills and has a good full time job.

now is this because she is under 21?

what are some good ones that are lenient?

even citi bank, which gave me one (i had no credit before i got it, but i got it through NCSU) denied her. and even the stores in the malls have denied her.

is capitol one any good?

She can go with a subprime bank like Orchard, they usually approve everyone.

Or she can try to get a secured card from a reputable bank, like Bank of America. After a year or so of perfect payments they will probably unsecure it.

She should go to her bank and apply for a Visa from them.

Her bank will either give her one with a very small line of credit or deny her and tell her exactly why.

There's no such thing as not getting a credit card because you lack credit in this country. Someone somewhere is perfectly happy to rape your ass on APR.

I would recommend her getting a credit report just to make sure that there isn't anything on there that shouldn't be. You can try adding her to one of your cards as an authorized user. The payment history will show up on her report. If it's good it will help her credit rating.

she can always get a walmart one, i think they have a standing promise they will never turn you down, even if your line of credit end sup being like 15 bucks, you can still use it to build your cs up

^that's the first card i got, cuz wal mart was the only store in our town and mom let me use it in high school to buy all my school supplies and toiletries so I could build up my credit. actually a great card, they don't allow you to screw yourself by paying teeny minimums, when you pay the minimum you are still paying the card down pretty quickly. and you can get almost anything from Super-Walmart. I still use mine for when I have to buy tires.

My old bank was giving me flak about a car loan. So I went and opened an account with a credit union. Opened the account with a couple hundred and got the loan the same day for 19k.

If she has a checking account in good standing, she can get a credit card through the bank.

I did this for my first card (with BB&T) and it not only built my credit quickly, but it magically unlocked a lot of doors at BB&T for me when I needed a big ass line of credit, and a couple of other bank's discretion offerings.

My first one was a Discover card for students - they have a $500 credit limit and don't go by your credit - after I established my credit, I was able to get a Mastercard and a VISA in no time

There's got to be something she's not telling you...lack of credit history should not get her denied from so many places.

yeah i had this same problem, and thought i was getting declined due to lack of history.

get a credit report, and find out what the deal is.

as it turns out, i had an open account from time warner cable that i thought had been closed since 2002. they had left the account open with a balance since then, and i didnt know due to changing addresses, phone numbers, and all contacts.

after that was taken care of, there were no more problems.

I got turned down from a couple when I first tried to apply when I turned 18. I applied online for Capital One and the automatically approved me for a $250 limit, but when they sent me the card they said they decided to raise it to $500. Kinda sucked for buying books until they raised the limit.
So, try them, but her interest rate is going to be really high so she better pay it off in full every month (duh).

try out the citi dividends. I got one about 6 months ago. I had never had anything in my name, just a checking account. never paid bills or anything but for some reason they gave me a 4k limit.

capital one will approve anyone, just tell her to keep it less than 1.2 of her credit limit and to pay it off frequently. after that she will get better offers in the mail.

Capitol One makes their money off fees; if the interest seems too good to be true, it's because it's the fees are much higher than other cards.

In general, until you've established some kind of credit history, any offer you get in the mail will not be worth accepting. Go to your bank or to a department store to get a first card.

I don't know if this has been mentioned yet. But when I turned 18 I got the MTV U credit card. It's just for students to help build credit pretty much, if you're still a student and don't have credit getting a student card is probably the easiest to get.

If she's eligible for USAA (was in the military, or her parents were), go that route.

I have an American Express Blue Advantage card with a $3000 limit. With most Amex cards you have to pay them off each month, but this one allows you to wait if you need to.
