total bullsh!t. my SRS light came off and on a few times and then my check engine light went off. i got it checked out at the dealer and something about a software control module and my SRS system and the seatbelt.

diagnostics = $400

seatbelt = $48

labor = $400

taxes was the rest ............... total bullsh!t.

Whoa that diagnostic and labor cost seems WAY off.

More information? Car, dealer etc.

Not necessarily too high for diagnostics, infact the seatbelt being $48 seems way too cheap for most cars. It could've been a car that's got the SRS system integrated w/the OBDII stuff (something quite new-ish). The only red flag for me is that diagnostics was exactly equal to the labor rate.

so they did $967 of work without giving you an estimate beforehand? Or did you just tell them "Do what you gotta do to fix it and tell me the cost afterwards."

they told me the total cost and I was like well go ahead. MY logic was the car was there ... they're my dealership - just get it done and over with, but after paying $1000 bucks and looking at a invoice that makes no sense it baffles me.

you know they are required to give you a written estimate if it's over 300 dollars and you can decline the repair, right?
