Separate from the politics and horror of it all, I find it somewhat satisfying in this youth-obsessed culture, when the United States finds its ass supposedly in a sling in Iraq, that the media and the government turn to a blue ribbon panel of elder statesmen and a stateswoman for answers. It is amusing, in a dark sort of way, and appropriate in the larger sense.

yeah, because all the other people making the descisions today are youthful.

Congrats on your highly successful thread. I'll attempt to save it now.The report released this past week suggested a more highly centralized state structure as meeting the needs of Iraqi security at this point. This seems highly dubious in light of past events and current divisions. A federal structure is absolutely necessary due to regional, ethnic, and religious lines. Also, it's a highly centralized government that screwed Iraq up so badly in the past, not just under Hussein, but also under the previous Hashemite monarchy. I hope we will do the right thing and continue to respect the new Iraq constitution, which calls for a federal structure.

writing a report about a war and posting in a college forum are totally the same thing
