nokia 6255i through alltel...i was putting in another mmc card the other day and noticed an extra slot...sure enough, the phone has slot for a sim card (it may be just a dummy slot, but the gold connectors are all therei wasn't aware that this phone was available for GSM...upon googling, it appears that it was indeed available for GSM...my question is this - is it possible that my phone can operate on GSM and CDMA, or did they probably just try to save money by manufacturing all of the phones exactly the same? i don't know enough about cell phone design to know if the CDMA/GSM hardware thing is even possible

borrow someone's sim card and find out

would it need to be unlocked for someone else's sim card to work?

dunno. Worst case senario you put the sim card in, boot it up and it says invalid sim card.

I know verizon wireless has a handful of phones that have GSM capability thru a SIM card for traveling overseas, but they don't work on US networks. it may be the case with yours as well. I know the nokia website doesn't say anything about GSM capability for that model
