I have standard cable with Time Warner and I get the basic HD channels like ABC, NBC, FOX, UNC and CBS.Starting 3 nights ago only WRALs 5.X channels stopped working. When I turn it to 5.1 - about 5 seconds after the picture comes up the channel changes to WRALs weather channel 113. It does that only for all of the 5.X HD channels. Is anyone else having this problem?

The HD sound on the time warner HD boxes is spotty at best for a lot of people (smoothcrim can testify to this too.) Never had THAT kind of problem, it just usually cuts in and out on me.
12/1/2006 3:19:57 PM
I don't have a box.I just have standard cable. From the wall to the tv. No box.ABC sound has always been shitty for me.
12/1/2006 3:25:06 PM
wait, you get HD channels with regular cable? i'll be damned...[Edited on December 1, 2006 at 3:41 PM. Reason : ]

If you are being serious....Yeah people I tell this to always look at me funny and say they thought you had to have a TWC box.
12/1/2006 3:49:04 PM
^ I always thought you had to have a digital cable package from time warner in order to get the standard HD channels. Interesting. Not that it matters as my tv blows.
12/1/2006 4:03:56 PM
Nope - no need for a box.It was actually what made me drop digital cable. I had the digital cable package but it wouldn't allow for HD with the standard box. I never watched any of the extra channels anyways so I just dropped it.You get:CBS 5.1, 5.2, 5.3, 5.4, 5.5ABC 11.1, 11.2, 11.3NBC 17.1, 17.2, 17.3FOX 50.2, 50.3UNC 4.1, 4.2, 4.3, 4.4, 4.5[Edited on December 1, 2006 at 4:10 PM. ^ If i understand right, you don't even need cable at all to get those. My friend got a nice big dlp hdtv a couple weeks ago, went over to Wal-Mart and picked up a HD antenna, and gets all that stuff with no cable at all\/ What? The HD channels are broadcast over the air aren't they? I thought WRAL was the first station in the country to do this. Maybe I'm wrong though[Edited on December 1, 2006 at 4:41 PM. Reason : k]

^^ It's called a Tuner. My HDTV has one built-in and I don't have any kind of cable tv service. However, I also don't get any CBS channels other than 5. And for some reason, Fox HD (50.1) shits out from time to time.[Edited on December 1, 2006 at 5:41 PM. Reason : ]

I am picking them up also on my new tv, just no channel 5.....also some channel way up int he numbers (mojo?)......but I deleted most that it picked up due to no signal
12/1/2006 5:52:33 PM

some sites that talk about digital OTA:http://www.hdtvpub.comhttp://www.antennaweb.orgI would say nchdtv.com but it seems to be down.

http://home1.gte.net/res18h39/channels.htmThese are for TWC in Durham, but I think most of them are pretty much the same.Yeah, all you need to get your locals in HD via TWC is basic cable and either a QAM tuner or a cablecard (can get these from TWC). You used to could get Discovery and TNT the same way, but theyve encrypted those channels now as well (bastards). You definitely have to ask about these things though, TWC is going to tell you that you have to have digital cable to get HD, but thats definitely not the case.

^ So, according to that, CBS HD/DT channels wont be available til the NCAA tournament starts?
12/2/2006 8:23:01 AM
That's wack if you ask me.I mean I can see them they just don't stay on
12/2/2006 9:03:29 AM
my previous tv picked up the HD signals on totally different channels.......and when I did a channel scan it picked up so much crap......like 350+ "digital" channels but many are "no signal" ......a guide would be great.....dont feel like changing through all those to find the other HD channels
12/2/2006 11:37:14 AM
^^^NO, WRAL/CBS HD is available, the ones that arent are the extra ones that only exist during the NCAA tournament. Its right there on the chart.
12/2/2006 12:18:57 PM
Yeah I have this problem too. 5.1 went out around Wednesday and hasn't been back since.
12/2/2006 12:35:23 PM
I will probably need to do a channel scan again soon to get 5.1
12/2/2006 12:59:46 PM
well then, i may have to look at canceling my cable subscriptioni'll just have to rig up something to act as a dvr
12/2/2006 2:25:59 PM
^^^ Ok good I feel better knowing someone else is having the same issue. When I did a rescan it doesn't even show anymore.Has anyone called TWC? I think I will and then let you guys know what they say.I did look around the house today and check all my connections just to rule that out.
12/2/2006 2:30:45 PM
12/2/2006 4:42:58 PM
85.5
12/2/2006 5:17:12 PM
sweet! Anyone know what MOJo is? when I did my initial scan it said 1080i I am pretty sure
12/2/2006 9:32:01 PM
Its not official, but supposedly Mojo will be the name of the combination of inHD and inHD2 come January 1, which is going to be an issue considering Versus, NBA TV, the inHD MLB package, and FSN will all have to share 1 slot for HD broadcasts.
12/4/2006 12:33:27 AM
humm......I am too lazy to figure out what channel it was again....might try those website.....right now only have the 5 normal on my fav's
12/4/2006 1:11:17 AM
i can't pick up any of the pbs channels with my tv. the antenna i bought is a piece of shit though. nbc looks real nice though, it comes in at 1080i.
12/5/2006 11:30:48 AM
Their sound sucks though
12/5/2006 12:01:17 PM
did something happen to fox now or just for me?[Edited on December 12, 2006 at 9:13 PM. Reason : fox moved down to 50.1 instead of 50.2 for me, still don't know about UNCHD]
12/12/2006 9:03:24 PM
ditto Fox AND UNCHD!!!!!!! no 4 or 50 WTF
12/12/2006 9:12:05 PM

12/12/2006 11:04:55 PM

bttt, HD channels are gone again (50.1 and 11.1 for me)[Edited on March 26, 2007 at 12:19 AM. Reason : /]
3/26/2007 12:19:26 AM
^ my dvico card still picks those up over QAM, but they don't have channel information on them like they usually do (I usually get D501 for Fox and D111 for ABC, now its like D1130-D1135). Both FOX and ABC are on frequency 113.
3/26/2007 1:36:22 AM
I was actually logging on to ask this same question. I was at my Aunt & Uncle's this weekend and they have an HDTV with a built in HD Tuner with standard cable and were getting many HD channels. I seriously thought you needed digital cable to get them...guess not. This makes the HD wait a lot shorter for me.Now what about ESPN over standard cable, would it have HD capabilities?
3/26/2007 4:32:00 AM
^no
3/26/2007 6:31:46 AM
cable specific channels must have a box to be in hd
3/26/2007 10:19:06 AM
@ teh_tochYep - Same here at my house
3/26/2007 12:15:49 PM
^ I got them back by adding freq 113 as Wolfrules suggested, try that.
3/26/2007 5:36:26 PM
ok... 113.1 is ABC 11 HD113.2 is ABC 11 SD113.3 is ABC 11 NEWS SD113.4 is FOX 50 HD113.5 is FOX 50 SD113.6 is some random E/I station
3/27/2007 7:18:11 PM
They need to stop moving them around.

I was hoping someone in Raleigh/Durham could confirm that they still get Digital (and hopefully HD) content with a QAM tuner from Time Warner over basic cable. I live in Durham (27713) and recently bought a TV that doesn't have a QAM tuner but I am very annoyed with messing with an antenna to get over the air digital reception (but LOVE the HD content I am able to get) and would like to get a different TV with a QAM tuner if I can actually use it.I called TWC today and of course they had "never heard of a QAM tuner", even after confirming with 2 supervisors. I am not sure if the people I spoke to just don't have a clue or if they just want to upsell their digital packages. Everything I have read (this thread included) indicates that people in the area have been getting digital and HD content with basic/standard cable. I am just worried that we are at Time Warners mercy since it is not an advertised feature and obviously a feature very much in transition. Also, I only have Basic cable ($15/mo for the first 24 channels or so) so that may make a difference. I am not against upgrading to standard to get the digital channels though. Thoughts anyone?
3/28/2007 4:03:25 PM
I missed prisonbreak due to the cut out of 50.1, guess I need to rescan to find them.
3/28/2007 5:54:36 PM
^^ With basic cable you can get ABC, NBC, FOX, UNC and CBS HD with a QAM tuner.
