I thought this was pretty interesting. They are filming EM Home Edition in Raleigh right now, downtown right near Peace College. Here is the link about the family:

If you are interested in volunteering, Deepti Vanguri is handling it for NCSU Students and faculty... the shifts available run from 12am-6am starting Saturday night.... drvangur@ncsu.edu

I mean it is cool what they do and all though it seems a little silly the kind of houses they are putting some of these folks in. Seems like a bit more of a noble thing to spread that wealth around to more families.

it's a tv show, there's no nobility about it

it's all about what brings in the ratings

thats my point

it just gives people this false sense of charity...theyre sitting there watching and feeling good simply because they're watching....blubbering HOW SAD THOSE POOR PEOPLE

and then they watch the next show

and feel so charitable

fucking people reading middle aged women demographic

Exactly my point. This show using the sympathy card to get viewer eyes to sell ad space is sickening. Actually, I'd be totally fine with it if all the profit from those ad's went right back in to charity, but we know it isn't.

i think its a great show. one of the few reality shows that actually improves people lives.
I only watch it occasionally.

i agree that some of the houses they build are extreme.
and if the family isn't well off financially - it must be difficult for them to pay the big utility bills that come along with their big house. plus property taxes and all that other $stuff$.
A bigger and better house is great but bigger bills isn't..
that's my only concern.

maybe they take care of it? i don't know.

if i had any time i'd volunteer but i already volunteer elsewhere on the weekends.
I am going to try to make it there Thursday to see the finale -"Move that Bus".

^true but most of the time the show pays off the morgage so therefore they have the monthly amount of money to put towards taxes and utilities.

While it does give a false sense of accomplishment from "sitting there watching the show", it is fulfilling to know that I can travel up to Raleigh this weekend and be part of the crew. That makes a big difference...

Some people just bitch about anything. Atleast the show is doing SOME good as opposed to nothing like most shit on TV. Who cares if they are advertising and making money? It's fucking TV and that's the whole damn point for the station.

Wow...They bought that house for $87,000 in 2000. As a renovated 1700 sq. ft. home in Mordecai I bet it would pull $350,000 today as long as it's in a decent part of the neighborhood.

And this is different from almost any other television or media network how? Find a niche in the market, build it, and sell on it. Besides, this is getting the thread WAAAYYY off topic ... take it to the Soap Box.

Anybody have pics they can post?

Just a question though- Yes they're selling ad space and stuff, but, wouldn't a good portion of that probably go back to the budget/paying for the house? that money has to come from somewhere for supplies, paying off the mortgage if they do that. Seems a lot less deplorable than first glance really.

I'd assume some of it does. I know in past episodes they've ran out of money and the cast had to do fundraisers.

although...

Most of the materials are donated and the labor is volunteer so the cost probably isn't THAT high.
