about the lowering of the goalposts before the end of the game. Here is an email that I was forwarded:

Coach Holland:
Thank you for helping us have such a successful season this year. You have, through your tireless effort, brought back the football fun to the pirate nation.
I am writing you to express my deep concern over the actions taken by NCSU in the final seconds by their announcer and by them taking down the goalposts in fear of a repeat of something that happened 20 plus years ago. I find their actions disrespectful to our players, coaches and fans. This behavior was very surprising and is totally unacceptable. My family and I have seen 8 games this year from Navy to NCSU and we have not experienced this type of disrespect by anyone, in fact, it has been just the opposite from our opponents as they have congratulated us on our success.
I am asking you, if you have not, to express to NCSU and the press how disappointed ECU is with their actions. I for one would ask you to remove them from our schedule as we have nothing to gain by playing someone who clearly has no respect for our fine university.
Again, thanks for a job well done and we will see you bowling!!

We compete with them in every way, every day – for students, for recruits, for money from the state, for sponsorship dollars, for media attention, etc. etc. And we can not beat them if we don’t play so I say, “bring them on.” WE will just have to show them what “class” is!

I got that beat. When the scoreboard showed a pic of Kay Yow and asked for everyone to keep her in their thoughts, some EZU douchebag behind me yelled out "Good, get better so our women's team can beat your ass one time!"

I turned around along with like 7 other NC State fans and the bastard's gf put her hand over his mouth and ushered him away to the concession stands. She may have possiblly saved his life.

its our freaking field! we can do whatever we want to our field. We don't go tearing down goal posts at other schools when we win against them because its disrespectful. We deserve that same respect from ECU. ECU fans were saying they were going to tear down our field goals, and we have a right to protect them if those rumors were true.

i saw retracting the goal posts as a sign of submission to ECU. I as a NCSU fan did not like it, but I prefer my facilities to be respected by another school's fans.

I also saw it disrespectful how our own students sold guest tickets to ECU fans. Our student sections especially 7 and 8 were half purple and half red. To me that's wrong.
