Well, what do you think? I choose these parts with cost in mind but still want fast. Any big flaws? I dont think I care about SLI (I think). I only play games once in a while. thx.http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16813130049 MSI K9N Platinum Socket AM2 NVIDIA nForce 570 Ultra MCP ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail $98.99http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16820227030OCZ Gold 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model OCZ28002048ELDCGE-K - Retail $245.99http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16822136014 Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD5000KS 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM $169.99http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16819103758 AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+ Windsor 2.6GHz Socket AM2 Processor Model ADA5200IAA6CS - OEM $389.99http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16814130017 eVGA 256-P2-N554-AX Geforce 7600GT 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card - Retail $139.99

i assume you probably aren't doing anything intense on this machine, including games but "once in a while", so my opinion:you don't need to 2gb of ram...get a single 1gb sticki only buy seagate drives...5-year warranty and personal experience are my guidelinesyou don't need a dual-core 64-bit processor...go with a core duo insteadsli is retarded and useless...no, you don't care about it

2gb is worthwhile, but you don't need top of the line stuff, lesser ram is all you need unless you overclock.

you mean the Intel Core 2 Duo
11/30/2006 12:23:26 PM
yea, my baddo they even make desktop versions of the core (1) duos?
11/30/2006 12:27:39 PM
They dont make core duo desktop processors they are laptop only to address the severe deficiencies of the pentium M's. The core 2 duos are the first desktop dual cores with new arcetecture but if your not doing anything extreme go with pentium D they are dual core's but based on pentium 4 archetecture

Yes, but:I keep hearing people recommend the Intel Procs. The problem is that I just do not see the performance gain in the c-2-duo. At least according to reviews and even tom's. Tomshardware CPU chart does not list this proc but I assume it is to be pretty close to the 6800/6700 because of the AMD 5200 cache size. I'd choose intel if there was evidence to convince me that it is *much* faster or there is some other greater benefit. I hate to start a religious war about this but my (good) experience has always been amd....

intel chipset > whatever is there for amdintel procs are faster for number crunching (video encoding)the core 2's overclock like crazy, but i doubt that interests you.i've never been a fan of any of the hardware that supports AMD procs. So now that the price/performance difference has been pretty much elminated there's no reason, in my eyes, to go with amd.

OK, maybe Intel. Lookin at TH again, I dont know if I should pick the 965 or 975 chipset. I am interested in overclocking as much as I can without too much effort. In otherwords if the board has some 'easy' overclocking features I'll choose that. If not then I will go with very typical overclocking techniques. But I am certainly not going to spend days getting the last couple of MHz out of the thing. So with that said, check this out and tell me what you think. Also if this memory is a good choice for the OCing I plan on doing (or should I stick with something cheaper)?http://www.newegg.com/product/Product.asp?item=N82E16819115003 Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Conroe 2.4GHz LGA 775 Processor Model BX80557E6600 - Retail $310.99http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16813130055 MSI P965 Platinum Socket T (LGA 775) Intel P965 Express ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail $134.99http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16820145034 CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop $292.00
