contrast ratios are nearly arbitrary numbers the manufacturers come up with...i wouldn't worry about that so much as the fact that it is a no-name LCD and i would NOT buy anything but name brand

Everything else considered, a 500:1 contrast ratio is pretty bad, about the worst I've ever seen advertised. It's like a car advertising 75 HP...

I picked up a 19" acer from tigerdirect on capital for ~170-180. It has one dead pixel, but I just needed a cheap display. I'm real happy w/ the Samsung displays.

tigerdirect has one up right now thats 17" for $90...and a 19" widescreen for $130
