The last few years, it's been a bigger and bigger deal; but I haven't heard a thing about this year's war on Christmas. It's after Thanksgiving already. Are my fellow members of the lunatic left going to assault my values or what?
11/27/2006 8:28:06 AM
Wait, so you're on the lunatic left as well and you're upset?I'm not sure I follow this thread...good thing too because I'd hate to follow it to the bucket.
11/27/2006 8:50:30 AM
The war on christmas has actually been shifted to a war on easter
11/27/2006 8:53:24 AM
I could have sworn it was a war on Mardi Gras this go round...
11/27/2006 8:55:13 AM
we're planning a sneak attack this year on christmas eve!
11/27/2006 8:57:23 AM
ITS CHRISTMAS NOT XMAS YOU SECULAR LIBERALS!!!!!!!
11/27/2006 9:02:08 AM
ha ha, I love the "war" on christmas, it's the most entertaining time of the year!
11/27/2006 9:09:21 AM
Given the vast commercialization of the holiday, overtaking Thanksgiving and even muscling in on Halloween, I imagine that the war has been lost.
11/27/2006 9:19:41 AM
^I saw Christmas decorations up after Labor Day.I suspect the war on Christmas isn't in full swing yet because the Democrats won out on election day. They really don't have a motive to make asses of themselves over non issues right now. [Edited on November 27, 2006 at 1:10 PM. Reason : -]

My girlfriend told me that since I converted from Christianity to Shinto that I no longer get presents.

11/27/2006 1:32:39 PM
No its on. We just thought the great deals at Wal Mart where too good to pass up this week. So the war starts on Dec 2 this year. Make sure to bring your punch and pie.
11/27/2006 2:07:58 PM
^But not Apple Pie, remember...

11/27/2006 2:12:50 PM
It was a troll statement but yeah.
11/27/2006 2:15:50 PM
^^But even O'Reilly hasn't been heard from on this one with his imaginary slights against the God-fearing. Call me crazy, but I think one set of over-sensative crazies may have taken a year off from being offended at people saying "happy holidays" and the other set of over sensative crazies may have taken a year off from being offended at the sight of a Baby Jesus on their state-sponsored Christmas Tree.

11/27/2006 2:53:46 PM
^ How is proposing that Santa doesnt relate to Christmas or shouldn't, anti christian? You think they'd be happy that folks want to seperate a commerical icon from a christian holiday.I would care about the war on christmas, but i'm a little too busy wishing people well, happy holidays for most, merry christmas if they are christian or say it to me first, and generally making sure that something nice happens instead of religious politicall bullshit. That said, I need to go put my pentagrams back on my altar and figure out when Dec's Esbat is .
11/27/2006 3:55:21 PM
I read an article the other day on one of the big 3 network's websites ( I can't remember which) that said that several stores were abandoning the "happy holidays", etc... slogans and going back to "merry Christmas"
11/27/2006 4:00:35 PM
^ I can believe it. There are a LOT of non christians who arent in the *least* offended by the merry christmas plastered everywhere- well, at least not for religious reasons, and find the whole idea of forcing everyone PC to be terrifically silly, as long as nobody's forced in any direction at all.I'm disgusted i saw christmas stuff up before thanksgiving, before halloween in a couple cases but that's just me being disgusted at how early the commercial world is trying to pounce on the gains.
11/27/2006 4:03:17 PM
A war on Christmas? If it were true and our leaders were running it...Our troops would be bogged down in the North Pole, while insurgent elves lobbed improvised exploding candy canes at them. Meanwhile at home, liberals would be bemoaning the lack of progress and calling for the redeployment of our troops down along the bunny trail.
11/27/2006 9:38:43 PM
Well the reason there is a War on Christmas issue is because FoxNews' commentator Charles Gibson wrote his dumbass book and so they played it up. If you have a pulpit, then whatever you say gets heard by everyone and talked about. If Lou Dobbs wrote a book about Chinese fireworks being the source of anthrax, you'd see that played up all over CNN every June and July.
12/5/2006 5:02:03 PM
There is no war on Christmas this year because we won it last year.Merry Christmas y'all.

Oh, the "war" is still on:"Among those on the list thus far are an Associated Press headline writer who referred to 'holiday trees' and a school system in New Jersey that won't display a nativity scene."http://www.chicagotribune.com/business/bal-te.bz.christmas24nov24,0,7755319.story"'We, quite frankly, have learned a lesson from last year,' Wal-Mart spokeswoman Linda Blakley told USA Today in a separate report. 'We're not afraid to use the term "Merry Christmas." We'll use it early, and we'll use it often.'"http://money.cnn.com/2006/11/09/news/companies/walmart_christmas/If all of the attacks on Christmas are just made up, who was Wal-Mart "afraid" of before?
12/6/2006 2:38:09 AM
12/6/2006 3:20:06 AM
why should a school have a nativity scene and in of all places new jersey?

HAPPY HONDA DAYS, Y'ALL!PEACE, LOVE, AND GAP...
12/6/2006 10:30:11 AM
^^^^ and ^^^ And that's why the "war" continues--QED. I would, however, describe the annual Christmas controversy as more of a battle in a larger ideological war, so to speak.
12/6/2006 10:37:54 AM
Yeah, cause screw Darfur...my local Wal-Mart greeter not using the words "Merry Christmas" is really the reason the world sucks. At least the women who are having their genitals mutilated are too busy screaming in pain to hear the abomination that is "Happy holidays" I'm sure they'd all just commit suicide right then.

^x4 Sorry about Dresden, too. Darfur? If you're waiting for everything to be right in this world, you ain't never gonna have a merry Christmas. Continue to live your apparently guilt-ridden life if you so choose. As for me, I'm going to try to be happy in the relative instant that I exist on this inexplicable orb.
12/6/2006 11:56:17 PM
My office mate plans the company Christmas party. She asked me if "Holiday Party" was an acceptible name. I recommended she go with "The Jesus Loves You Super Christian Christmas Blowout Bash" instead. She lol'd.
12/7/2006 8:27:19 AM
To me it depends on where you work and what kind of company it is. Nothing wrong with being a Christmas party if most of the people you work with celebrate Christmas (regardless of religion). Lots of Jews around here have Christmas trees and give gifts on Christmas from "Santa." Christmas has been separated enough from Christ that it is acceptable to celebrate it as a secular holiday when needed. Now if I worked in a Synagogue, I might call it "Holiday Party"

^Some of the Onion's stuff is pretty funny. This one was extra-funny. If you look to the left of this hit-piece making fun of buying stuff, you'll see an ad you can click on to buy Onion stuff. I guess it just depends on whose stuff you're buying.

I don't know why there has to be an issue. If you don't like Christmas wish people a "Happy <Insert alternative holiday/reson to celebrate something>" greeting and argue about more substantial things........reference darfur mention above

there is no war on Christmas, Fox news created it so they could be appaled by it
