Starts tomorrow at the IMAX

It got 80% on Rotten Tomatoes

I think its going to be alot better than most of the recent CG movies.

All children's movies skew high on RT because they're inoffensive. 80% is honestly kind of low.

It looks like shit, but since it was directed by George Miller, I'm willing to give it a chance.

maybe it's just me, but i'm tired of seeing cute animated animals doing funny kiddy dances in exotic locations with quirky celebrity voiceovers

Why the fuck is Robin Williams doing the voice of THREE characters?

Because he can use the paycheck to buy three times the amount of vodka.

I'm not going to see it unless I get paid to take the kids, or my mom really wants to see it and pays. Even with all those actors it looks like a steaming pile.

And has anyone else gotten a weird "black people movie" vibe from it?

took the gf to see it... actually had some funny parts... like a weak ice age with musical parts, humorous but way too much storyline

it has a story? All I've seen is a bunch of happy-ass penguins in the commercials.

well the problem is if i told who it was then EVERYONE would want to ask this person about movies and then i wouldnt get the exclusive interviews anymore, thus ruining anything i had going for me in life

There are at least 4 things about what's going on with this movie and its existence that make me sad/mad/disappointed.

I liked it. Then latino penguins were cute, but I really liked the parts when the Emperor Penguins were all singing together, like in the winter to "help turn the world and bring back the sun". That image keeps sticking in my mind. I kept thinking it was going to end before it did, like when Mumble swam after the boat, or when he lost his voice in Seaworld. The animation was incredible, especially how they made the birds seem like their beaks could talk without changing the shape of them. I really liked it, no matter how child-oriented it was, though I kept wondering when poor Mumble would finish molting and get his adult feathers.

catch the matinee

Quote :
"Keeping the pact between Thorsten and I, I begin this review by saying that your date should be of at least average looks to watch this movie. My movie experience started by sitting in a broken seat at Mission Valley, that was quickly fixed by switching to a seat that basically had a wooden back, but it did recline…Mission Valley is no Raleigh Grande. The beginning credits are rolling to a cheesy medley of classic love songs revealing a huge cast in which Robin Williams, aka hairy gorilla, does the voiceover for two characters.

There are some extremely cute, yeah I said it, parts in this movie and an equal number of funny parts. My lord, Happy Feet even has Hugo Weaving from V for Vendetta as a penguin…that’s pretty BA right there. Robin Williams is funny as a hispanic character, basically he could outperform Carlos Mencia on an off night. Okay, so there is cute, there is funny, there is a great cast…and then there is music, music, and more music.

Don’t get me wrong, I love a good song and I’ve been known to serenade a select few ( Thor ), but I wasn’t expecting a musical. I was hoping for more of an Ice Age, Shrek, Monsters, Beavis and Butthead type movie (pick the one that doesn’t belong). The music isn’t bad, but in my opinion it takes a little away from the movie.

One extremely cool thing, the use of live characters and scenes mixed with animated ones. I won’t give those away, but it’s worth watching to see how far animation has come since Dumbo and Roger Rabbit.

Ultimately, this movie is probably worth watching, but taking into account some of our readers may not have a hot date by their side…I’ll downgrade to Catch the Matinee. It’s a pretty solid effort for an animated movie, but no Monster House. "

Most reviews are positive. They sure are doing a terrible job of advertising though. The commercials have ensured that I'll only see it when they televise it.
