now that he is a borderline superstar and his stock is at an all-time high, when will Philip get national endorsement deals?oris he too nice and down homey to get a big deal? Torry is the best WR in the league, but since he's such a well behaved dude, you don't see him pushing anything but Fathead wall graphics
11/16/2006 10:21:48 PM
he's gold anywhere south of the mason-dixon line, and maybe some places above it
11/16/2006 10:23:01 PM
MILK
11/16/2006 10:23:47 PM
i'd buy more milk if Philip told me to
11/16/2006 10:24:34 PM
That makes one
11/16/2006 10:25:15 PM
patience young wolfcub, patience.
11/16/2006 10:25:32 PM
He's gonna be doing mastercard commercials with Peyton by the beginning of next year after he wins the superbowl this year.
11/16/2006 10:26:55 PM
I think it's just a matter of time before he's recognized as a breakout QB. He's having a terrific season with the Chargers, and with a little more experience under his belt he may become the new elway.
11/16/2006 10:27:48 PM
If Rivers was either in VA, SC, GA, or obviously NC... we'd be seeing him in Pepsi ads.
11/16/2006 10:30:49 PM
I don't understand this thread.
11/16/2006 10:37:48 PM
Maybe not nationally, at least for the next few years. But if Jake Delhomme can get Bojangles commercials, you can get Phil can get something thats big at least in SoCo.
11/16/2006 10:42:01 PM
By its very nature, the NFL minimalizes the individual. There are really only a handful of players that really seem to be major marketing forces -- Peyton Manning, Michael Vick, Donovan McNabb, Tom Brady, and even then it pales in comparison to the level of marketing surrounding NBA players.
11/16/2006 10:45:29 PM
Rivers is so young though, and he doesn't play like a rookie. I remember his first season with the Chargers, some of the veterans were shocked to see their rookie QB come into the huddle shouting orders fearlessly. He's impressed a lot of people, and he brings results. He's the real deal I think.[Edited on November 16, 2006 at 10:48 PM. Reason : spelling]
11/16/2006 10:47:39 PM
^what the fuck does that have to do with marketing though? dumbass.
11/16/2006 10:48:29 PM
Yeah seriously. Rivers has the personality to be marketable...AND he's a good quarterback. His time will come.
11/16/2006 10:51:59 PM
11/16/2006 10:52:19 PM
I don't think it matters really. When you are that good at what you do, and that young, anything is an option.
11/16/2006 10:53:32 PM
torry gets pwned by the King coming over the middle in the BK commercial
11/16/2006 11:15:26 PM
he has the general look to do spokesman/model work for Ralph Lauren Polo or another clothing brand like that (izod, lacoste, the general "preppy" lines)[Edited on November 16, 2006 at 11:17 PM. Reason : .]

He totally could, from a personality stand point hes basically a Peyton clone: southern accent, aww shucks, humble, gives a lot of credit to his team mates, really football smart, doesnt get into trouble etc... but the only thing is there might not be room for two of those in the NFL...at least not nationally[Edited on November 17, 2006 at 1:39 AM. 11/17/2006 1:37:56 AM
^^ Almost certainly not, the NFL owns the rights to all that content.
11/17/2006 10:27:23 AM
Philip told me to take my vitamins....and I listened.
11/17/2006 10:31:01 AM
Yeah, let him finish out the season and keep up this productivity and he's a lock to get some promotional deals next year.I would love to see him vs. Peyton in commercials for the biggest fan of people around the city, haha, those commercials would be great.
11/17/2006 11:04:26 AM
Phillip needs a few good games and maybe a season or 2 before you can give him the fame of GOD. I will admit right now he is great and he is very dedicated to the game. Look at Big Ben everyone thought he was great his first 2 years now he is having some problems. Over all yes Phillip Rivers can sell. If you are nice and respectful of the media they will give you props when you earn it.
11/17/2006 11:17:20 AM
I mean, he's not Peyton Manning yet, but yes, I think he could sell.
11/17/2006 11:59:53 AM
11/17/2006 12:03:05 PM
I can Phillip doing a Milk Commercial no problem and honestly I can see him doing something with Underarmor or its equivalent...If he finishes the season as strong as he has started...I am sure we will see him appearing in some commercials...And when/if PR gets voted to Pro Bowl and does stellar at QB challenge....it's going to be on III&FC[Edited on November 17, 2006 at 12:11 PM. A whole show of Outside The Lines or something was dedicated to the marketability of Peyton Manning...much of the discussion was how come Peyton is so much more marketable than Tom Brady or Michael Vick. And the answer was that he goes out and GETS advertising instead of just waiting for it to come to him. Philip fits the same mold as Peyton but is going to have to want to put his face out there...I dunno if that's how he rolls though. He probably still drives that 89 Taurus he had
11/17/2006 5:13:39 PM
11/17/2006 5:26:38 PM
^ haha, I am sure its a question of not being offered more so than not wanting to do it... something tells me if Visa, or Coke, or whatever offered him the $$$ associated for a national advertising campaign, he would do it, I dont think he has to worry about "keepin it real" or "selling out"
11/17/2006 5:30:53 PM
whatever you do Phil, do not do the following two:1) EA sports2) Campbell's chunky soupthey are a fucking jinx
11/17/2006 5:42:52 PM
11/17/2006 5:46:49 PM

Philip is like a nice, sane, and happy Gary Busey/Dennis Hopper combo
11/17/2006 6:08:40 PM
NESTLE QUICK
11/17/2006 6:41:15 PM
Biggz you are the worst state fan ever...im embarrassed to share messageboard bytes with you
11/17/2006 6:46:16 PM
He should start up a non smoking addseriously, it would work well for him
11/17/2006 8:21:03 PM
did he end up doing any commercials over the past 6 years?
1/10/2013 10:32:34 PM
He's featured in this DirecTV spot http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EatnhTFY3bsand this ESPN spot http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zWUbonWozIoBut he's a pretty private person from what I hear, and has zero interest in becoming a cult of personality a la Favre, Manning, and Brady.
1/10/2013 10:38:44 PM
this is officially the last thread in which Jaybee was ever objective
1/10/2013 10:43:25 PM
He did a taco bell commercial as well
1/10/2013 10:59:44 PM
