ashy to classythe winning car last year was a VW Touraeg from a Stanford U team.
11/16/2006 2:34:44 PM
yeah, but our team supposedly only put 55,000 into the the suburban and Stanford put about $4 million into that VW
11/16/2006 4:53:09 PM
That Suburban did DAMN WELL.I'm not sure a lotus is a very good car to make autonomous... Seems to me that something with more room inside and more ground clearance (for WHEN it goes over a curb) would be better and less expensive.[Edited on November 16, 2006 at 4:59 PM. Reason : d]

sure it's small inside, but it's not like you need seats and all the other human control interfaces
11/16/2006 5:07:17 PM
how many threads does this have about it now
11/16/2006 5:11:10 PM
The Lotus was $Free, I'm sure they'll make anything work that doesn't cost anything[Edited on November 16, 2006 at 5:28 PM. Reason : .]

How about we place some bets... This thing isnt going to make it 10'
11/16/2006 5:37:49 PM
did they change the competition so that its not on a rough dirt road now?
11/16/2006 5:40:51 PM
"Urban Challenge"

i made one down below about DARPA's Grand Challenge. This is DARPA's Urban Challenge car.
11/16/2006 7:25:39 PM
they are two different contests ^OMARBADU FOR THE LOSS (OFTL)
11/17/2006 8:36:15 PM
ah thought i had seen this before - maybe it wasn't in the garage and was elsewhere - good catch bob ryan (brftw)

its pretty neat. i know the guy who leads insight racing. he said he is going to change the transmission and put in power steering and have AC going to the trunk. i am glad there is some sexy publicity from state.
11/18/2006 6:18:32 PM
it would have been more appropriate if they had donated the red one instead of the blue one
11/19/2006 6:01:54 PM
I agree, a quick paint job is definitely in order.
11/20/2006 11:34:33 AM
Yea I don't know much about the DARPA challenge other then the fact that it goes off road.I don't know how that would work with the elise.
11/20/2006 11:50:30 AM
^ as stated above this the DARPA urban challenge."Teams will compete to build an autonomous vehicle able to complete a 60-mile urban course safely in less than 6 hours."I think this is taking the place of the Grand Challenge (off road) this year but I couldn't tell for sure.Lotus should be fine for urban driving. I guess an SUV would be better if you accidentally hop onto a curb though...
11/20/2006 12:06:39 PM
"complete a 60-mile urban course safely"Hmm, might preclude hopping a curb anyways. Practice/QA/testing will suck for that poor Lotus though, lol
