Anyway, the previous thread is so old (>90 days) that I can't post on it. So, I just got the new Smackdown game on PS2 (also available on 360), and I'll definitely play it for a few hours after work. I have NO IDEA who to play as first, but it's either going to be Kurt Angle, Mr. Kennedy, or someone like Shelton Benjamin. I'm excited about the new analog grapple system. Anyway, who else has this game?

They left Angle in?

Yes, they left him in. I know, right? Rosters are outdated a bit. I want to unlock the legends. Got about 15 of them.[Edited on November 14, 2006 at 4:16 PM. Reason : WWF]

all wrestling games sucked after the N64 versions (WCW vs NWO)

Will "Leaping" Lanny Poffo be a legend?
11/14/2006 4:20:19 PM
No, but Bam Bam Bigelow is one. It's got the Hart Foundation (Hitman and Anvil), Roddy Piper, Hulkster, Jerry Lawler, Stone Cold, and The Rock as some of the Legends.

They did have Bulldog in last year's game, but yes, it's long past due for Owen to be in the game. Pillman I wouldn't mind being in there either.

I've had to create Owen for every game since he was in Attitude (they took him out of WM2000).The THQ/N64 engine is still my favorite. I don't even watch WWE these days, but I still enjoy the games.[Edited on November 14, 2006 at 4:37 PM. Reason : .]

Scary to think that Bret Hart and Jim Neidhart are the only ones still alive in that group. Jim's daughter, Nattie, wrestles too.

Bret was on the ropes there for a while, too. He's better now, looked like he was doing good when they filmed his DVD. He's doing musicals now. http://www.rosspetty.com/index1.html[Edited on November 14, 2006 at 4:39 PM. Reason : .]

Anything new with the storylines?
11/14/2006 4:43:53 PM
I heard they have put many different storylines into the game. I think IGN covered briefly on this. Plus, season mode doesn't end, kinda like Smackdown: Know Your Role (PS1).I did see a vid on YouTube recently of a storyline involving Kurt Angle and Candice Michelle. It was where Candice used her wand to turn Kurt into a woman. I kid you not. I saw it with my own two eyes.

Ok, I played it last night, and I must say the analog grapple system is going to take a little used to. I like the whole "Ultimate Grapple Move" thing. You can stall suplexes, move your wrestler to hot spots, and there's a lot more things to do in the game. I first played with Shelton, and then, I started my career with Kurt Angle. Beat the hell out of Big Show in the first match. Then, played an exhibition match with Mr. Kennedy. He has the best entrance in the game...period.MISTER KENNEDY!!!KENNEDY!!!

Played season mode some more last night, and I won the WWE title, then lost the title, and finally I'm stuck with a goofy angle with Candice Michelle and her "magic" wand. The new control scheme does make the game a little bit more challenging, but it's a very fun game.I kind of wish the whole endless string of grapples would not slow down the momentum of the match, and the "UGM" seems unstoppable at times. It's like I activate it, and there's almost no way the CPU can stop it.Great game, though. MISTER... KENNEDY... KENNEDY!!!

I guess I'm the only one with this game. Damn.

Is it still too easy to reverse moves in the game? It's what really turned me off of the games in the first place. With No Mercy/WM 2000, there was a certain amount of timing involved when it came to breaking a grapple or countering a strike. They changed it up and made it easy for anyone to play by assigning all the reversal buttons to a single button, and all you had to do was mash the hell out of it. I couldn't get a good grapple or strike in to save my life and it was too frustrating to deal with. Have they fixed that yet? If they haven't, there's no bother to look into getting this game.

There are two buttons for reversals. L2 reverses strikes, R2 reverses grapples. I'll admit there is mashing when countering unless you can time it on the spot with one button press. L2 & R2 at the same time reverses finishers.Mashing counter button doesn't work too often during "UGM" moments. You really have to time your counters when your opponent does moves like the "ten punch" or when he/she is slamming your head against a table or guardrail. That's all I can say about that.[Edited on November 17, 2006 at 11:13 AM. Reason : Ultimate Grapple Moves]
