So it's a crazy long shot, but I *may* actually end up doing the full-time MBA starting next Fall @ State. Assuming you're full time (9 hours or up, right?) and in a GA position that's paying for your tuition, what's your M-F schedule like? By that I mean general time spent on campus, and general amount of time spent outside of class on HW/projects. Do you school or intern in the summers? And how much $$$ do GA's receive monthly (the stipend, or whatever it's called)?

What kind of GPA does an engineer need to get into the MBA program?
11/13/2006 8:58:37 PM
if you have to ask, you wont get in
11/13/2006 9:38:00 PM
I am a in my first year in the fulltime MBA program. I graduated with degrees in EE and CPE in may. My gpa was arund a 3.3.The M-F schedule is 13.5 hours spread from 9-12 MWF and 10-3 T,HThere is a lot of out of class work and it is very time consuming, not very hard, but takes a lot of though and work.GA's receive a full ride I think, I am not one so i wouldnt know, otherwise its ~$11K per year.During the summer you intern. Overall the program lasts 2 years. If you have any other questions feel free to contact me via AIM at squirelmaster16
11/13/2006 11:07:22 PM
how many times did you take the gmat?
11/13/2006 11:21:18 PM
11/14/2006 8:48:24 AM
Southpaw, it would be great to have you back here at state. Id imagine the best source would be Don Warsing or Cecil Bozarth. (I believe that Bozarth is doing only MBA now, and both are excellent advisor's.) Maybe you'll luck out and one of these guys would use you as a GA.
11/14/2006 8:56:23 AM
heck yeah bro, I miss itAnd I don't know how this thread turned engineering, but I'm not an engineering major I am a BUS major.I took the GMAT once (scored 590, will never take it again for any reason whatsoever...horrible, horrible experience)And yeah, I'm gonna apply and just cross my fingers for a GA (the only way I can afford to come back). I know there's some profs who'd hook me up once the committee blessed w/ a GA, but apparently the profs. don't have any pull on that end.
11/14/2006 11:39:16 AM
Im applying now too. I have several friends in the program now, some are on the GA. Either way, they say plan on being in Nelson 10 hours a day if you are a GA. No problem with me if its a full ride, though.
11/14/2006 1:06:04 PM
word up, and good luck to ya too
11/14/2006 1:16:09 PM
^ for sure, will be good to know other members of the program before we enter. My good friend told me that the people you know in MBA school are very influential in landing you a job and/or using their network. 100% of the MBA grads have FT positions in 6 months after graduation. Im actually going to the MBA info session tonight in Nelson. Over break ill be studying to take the GMAT.GA get $3,000/semester, but are putting in a lot of hours into either working at the MBA office, research, or being a student teacher (maybe teaching a Undergrad intro course or lab). I am trying to teach personally. Broken down, I was told its less than minimum wage (factoring the 3k stipend) but again, who cares about being broke for two years if there paying tuition.
11/14/2006 1:40:39 PM
The stipend may only be $3000/semester but the tuition waiver is nearly $6000/semester so it's more like $9000 for ~ 4 months work. That's significantly more than minimum wage even for a full-time job, which a GA isn't. Yeah... FT MBA tuition is $5,963.50/semester. http://www.fis.ncsu.edu/cashier/tuition/MBAtuition.asp
11/15/2006 2:29:56 AM
To answer the schedule question, here's my class times for this semester:
11/15/2006 2:40:19 AM
I was wondering how long the admissions process is at State after you have done your interview. I know it says 30 days usually, but I'm looking for someone who has been through the process, not what the website says.
11/15/2006 10:39:39 AM
^ In addition to that, how long did it take you from the date of submitting your junk to get an interview?
11/15/2006 11:09:22 AM
3-4 weeks
11/15/2006 11:19:32 AM
done with all my application except to take the GMAT now...going to take it over CHristmas break and submit my transcript after this Fall as I am doing real well. Cant hurt to bump teh GPA up a bit
11/16/2006 11:55:28 PM
i'm full time in the MAC program. somewhat similar, but you have to take about 15 hours a semester..crazy i know. i'm doing a GA position right now teaching acc 200p and it's a bit of a crunch. the pay sucks so i would recommend having plenty of money saved up or financial aid to get you through.
11/17/2006 12:33:10 AM
Just found out that I got accepted to State....I'm pretty excited. I'm glad I don't have to worry about getting in to a school anymore. Stress-free!
11/20/2006 4:44:47 PM
CONGRATS! so, how long did it take for them to let you know after your interview?
11/20/2006 7:57:25 PM
25-26 days right around there
11/20/2006 9:38:53 PM
nice, I'm still waiting on my profs. to email in their recommendations...everything else has been received, argh
11/21/2006 6:51:40 AM
what other school are you applying too?[Edited on November 21, 2006 at 10:51 AM. Reason : ?]
11/21/2006 10:51:44 AM
this is it homie, State or bummin' it nah, just kiddin', but seriously that's what I did for undergrad. NCSU and that's it. I said if I didn't make it in I'd just bum it, but alas they took me.I'm currently employed in WV, and I'm accepted already to next year's Marshall weekend MBA program as well as ECU's distance MBA, but I wanna relocate back to Raleigh, which is why I'm throwing this out there to begin with. I figure if I'm moving back, I might as well get a Master's and lock down a solid job in the triangle.
11/21/2006 2:08:20 PM
i'm looking into the part-time MBA program and trying to get an idea of what kind of time committment i'd be looking at. the course load for the part time program is 2 classes per semester. approximately how much time would this be?
1/8/2007 9:25:04 PM
It's hard to say how much time the MBP program requires during the first year, because it's highly dependent on your team. I thought BUS530 with LAS was a worthwhile class but a huge time sink. I heard it wasn't as intense this year, but who knows...
1/9/2007 2:00:03 AM
damntough day for me.Had my interview just before Christmas break, felt it went as good as it possibly could have, and felt very confident that I'd get in.just got the email saying they couldn't admit me "at this time," but I was on the waitlist and would hear back "four weeks after the next deadline," which of course is March 1st, so I'm looking at like April at the earliest to knowdamn, feels rough to get punked by your own alma mater, and I seriously had my stuff in order. Good luck to the rest of y'all out there, apparently there's some stiff competition
1/17/2007 1:01:23 PM
Bit after the fact, but graduate/professional students can qualify for up to $18,500 a year in loans (both subsidized and unsubsidized). That should be a good start to helping to pay for some of the programs. And don't knock yourself too hard on this. I got rejected from a grad program at NCSU only to move on and get accepted into VT's PMBA program the following year. Stay optimistic and keep at it.
1/17/2007 7:29:15 PM
I guess you accept a lot of applicants or just want your students to pay. I'm suprised you only get 3000 salary and a 6000 tution waiver. Many programs in lesser fields, the social sciences and the humanities get 15,700 salary and the full 6000 waiver for school or 14,000 if out of state. In addition, free health insurance and travel benefits from ncsu.Free money not a loan[Edited on January 18, 2007 at 2:01 AM. Reason : .][Edited on January 18, 2007 at 2:03 AM. Reason : ..]

I have a quick question about the MBA program at NC State:How hard are the tests or is most of the grades for the classes in the MBA classes based on group projects? Also if I am working full time how many classes do I have to take each semester? Thanks
2/8/2007 6:51:13 PM
Did anyone else apply for the March 1st deadline? I submitted my application Feb 28th , crossing fingers for an interview.
3/13/2007 5:58:18 PM
i submitted the same day i thinki just got the email for an interview todaybtw, what kind of questions do they ask at these interviews?
3/16/2007 2:08:14 AM
^ What type of managerial experience have you had? (If "none," your GMAT / GPA better rule)Where do you see yourself career-wise in 5 years? 10 years? Why did you pick NC State over other MBA programs?Who could you see yourself working for? (rattle off Triangle-based companies, particularly ones NC State is partnered with)Why do you want your MBA?Then a few personality-type questions dealing with teamwork, leadership, communication, etc. That's the gist of it. I nailed mine and still got waitlisted -- the 590 GMAT hurt, "only one year" at a Fortune 500 company apparently isn't up to snuff, and the "substantial increase in applications this year" have raised the bar way above the stats NC State shows on their website as far as admittance goes. Good luck, you'll need it BTW, didn't wait around to see if I'd get in the FT program, I landed a job in RTP and will begin Campbell's part-time MBA program @ RTP this summer [Edited on March 16, 2007 at 6:46 AM. im in the process of applying to the part time MBA program at the smith school of business at univ of maryland.im taking the GMATs next weekend. fun stuff. ive only written one of the three essays needed so far, but the deadline isnt until april 15th, so i have plenty of time.
3/16/2007 8:09:23 AM
3/16/2007 8:36:00 AM
I got waitlisted before I got into the program so dont give up all hope. If anyone has any questions feel free to IM me at squirelmaster16.
3/16/2007 1:33:25 PM
^^ how was your gpa and test scores? im guessing when the complete app shows up, they rank them somehow
3/16/2007 7:26:16 PM
gpa = 3.4 in Biological Business Management with a minor in Economics. GMAT score is 540 and I have interned and worked for Intel and Hewlett Packard during my undergrad. I also had letters of reference from top level Intel and HP employees so I thought that might help. During my time with HP I did manage 5 employees so I have limited managerial experience, but a lot compared to 4-year graduates. I am also in the hiring process with Marketsouce/Cisco and Nortel right now so I am planning on the worst and crossing my fingers.Hearing that some of you have received invites for interviews is discouraging me so I am really pushing FT employment now. On the bright side, Marketsouce/Cisco will pay for an MBA after two years so that is always an option.
3/16/2007 8:50:36 PM
anyone heard back this week?
3/19/2007 4:50:57 PM
my interview is thursday! excitement!
3/19/2007 9:46:27 PM
to those who haven't been contacted yet, i was one of the last people contacted to interview for the mba program at nc state.i just checked my email and i was accepted in july, and i found out two weeks after i interviewed. so with a little math i wouldn't panic or give up hope until july rolls around. it wouldn't hurt to follow up with thank you letters to anyone you've met in the mba office (if applicable).
3/19/2007 10:06:23 PM
3/20/2007 12:44:31 PM
^ His was FT, and for what it's worth, it was 2 years ago when there was apparently a much slower stream of applications.
3/20/2007 1:22:31 PM
3/20/2007 1:48:32 PM
so i just had my interviewyou were pretty much dead on as far as the questions goshe said i would know by the end of next week or the middle of the week after at the latest.

Got my denial email today. This comes on the same week Cisco, Moduslink, and HP have extended FT offers. I have follow-up interviews with Nortel and Wachovia next week so at least I have something to be positive about. Bummed out, but best of luck to those of you who have interviewed and are waiting to hear back.
3/22/2007 3:33:12 PM
those of you currently in State's MBA program.. which GMAT study guides would you recommend?
3/23/2007 12:33:09 PM
im taking the GMATs tomorrow. im not in a program yet, but i used the official GMAT study guide. I did some research and people seemed to recommend it more than any of the others.[Edited on March 23, 2007 at 12:38 PM. Reason : d]
