So I did a search and did not come up with a relevant thread that addresses this exact issue. My cellphone battery thru Alltel sucks. I have the Motorola V262 with 3.6v lithium ion battery.I charge it up and the charge MIGHT last a day... usually half a day or so. I've heard that its bad to leave a battery on a charger for a long time, and I have to confess that I do this lots. Will that kill a lithium ion battery? I thought it was just for older batteries, but I'm probably wrong. Is there any battery that I could get that will hold a better charge?Sorry because I'm sure this is elementary for some of you.

if your cellphone is in a poor coverage area like having 2 bars to no signal your batteries will drain faster. Yes leaving on a charger for long periods lowers battery life. alltell seems to suck when in some buildings therefore draining your batteries.[Edited on November 13, 2006 at 12:11 PM. Reason : .]

good info, but do you know why a cell phones battery would drain more in poor coverage areas?

a cell phone has to send out a much stronger signal to communicate with a tower which is farther away in a poor coverage area, but in an area where you are close to the cell tower, a weaker signal will reach the tower just fine. That is how cell phones extend battery life when you are in a good coverage areaIf you are out in the middle of nowhere with little or no signal, your phone will go dead in a few short hours because it uses up all its power trying to communicate with the nearest cell tower. My cell goes dead in about 2hrs when I play disc golf out at Harris Lake (near the nuke plant) even when it has a full charge before I leave the house.
