big mistake. those dogs are hard as hell to train. but hey, if you like non stop barking and pissing on the floor, go for it.
11/9/2006 12:01:27 PM
eh, i was hoping for relevant information based on personal experiences, ive got the phonebook type shit covered, but thanks.

We've had beagles. And we've gotten rid of beagles. They require a lot of exercise and a lot of mental stimulation. If you don't do these things they tend to get neurotic. Ours barked 24/7 and escaped from our yard more times than I can count. They are notoriously hard to housetrain as well, but ours were outdoor dogs, so dunno about that.
11/9/2006 12:25:05 PM
I have a friend who is about to give up his beagle because of the same shit. The dog needs so much attention and just refuses to learn any obedience training. Very stubborn. Not to mention it has fucked up everything in his house.seriously not trying to troll, I'm just warning you. They're VERY iffy dogs[Edited on November 9, 2006 at 12:57 PM. Reason : .]

my mom has two beagles currently and had two others previously who passed from old age. they're great dogs, she's never had problems with them...not to mention they're cute as can be! i got my mom her 1yr old beagle puppy for christmas last year, and i found that breeder through craigslist.
11/9/2006 1:02:36 PM
^does your mom stay at home all day? B/c that helps a lot with a dog that is difficult to train and is high maintenance.

$700 for a beagle puppy if you're set on getting a puppy maybe a breed rescue.http://www.tribeagles.org/ is an awesome rescue.they have puppies and adults. and adopting from a dog thats in foster care has its perks.foster parents can tell you about the dogs training, personality, likes/dislikes, etc..and you save $ on vet bills. the adoption fee costs less than paying out of pocket and totalling up all the bills.http://www.tribeagles.org/albums/album15/Butch.sized.jpg^cute puppy[Edited on November 9, 2006 at 1:26 PM. i hope you want a dog that will never fucking shut up. I had one and had to give it away cause 5am comes around and it's time to bark!!1
11/9/2006 1:57:24 PM
I gotta agree, every beagle I've ever known (owned by friends) barked all the time.definitely wouldn't be on my short list of dogs
11/9/2006 2:10:29 PM
I'm lucky... we have a boxer and a brittany, and neither of them bark.the boxer sometimes barks in his sleep, but that's a bout it.i hate some barking ass dogs.
11/9/2006 2:49:23 PM
brittany spaniel?i have had severl differnet spaniels and love that breed of dogmy old roomie had beagle and it too would never shut the fuck upit would also piss all over the place even it she was walked and played withi think she was just a little bitch

I've got two beagles, one was given by friends and the other was bought for about $200 from a breeder at the fairgrounds when they still sold dogs there. The little one took forever to house train, but now they're perfect about not making mistakes in the house. They are quite stubborn, but I'd get a beagle again. They're very loving dogs, and not very messy. Good around kids, etc.
11/9/2006 3:06:50 PM
those dogs smell so bad.Every person that I've ever known to own one of those dogs and keep them in their house had a shitty, smelly, nasty house.
11/9/2006 3:37:15 PM
I have a Beagle never really barks, and was very easy to house train. They are very loving and expressive animals. I would recommend a beagle, any puppy at first will test your patience. Check with a local vet and hunt clubs

I will even let DJ L come visit to see how clean and good my place smells. To absolve all myths

11/9/2006 3:48:06 PM
^that's fair to say, because I do. hahahahabut aren't they hound dogs? They are barkers and VERY stubborn- but i mean, i don't know a dog that ISN'T stubborn...so....to each his own.
11/9/2006 3:49:18 PM
I think TigerJ just has a freak of nature. I have yet to meet a beagle that wasn't loud and hard to train, or that actually stayed in the yard.
11/9/2006 4:49:22 PM
i must have the smartest beagle in the worldwe never had problems training him
11/9/2006 5:15:09 PM
are you looking to fight them? come down to angier on tuesday nights at the horse stables we fight them out there. if you have a good trained beagle you cna make an easy 200bux a night. just need to invest in about 15 bux worth of head protection
11/9/2006 5:44:18 PM
^^&^You two need to be humanely euthanized.
11/9/2006 6:27:15 PM
just read some shit about them shedding year round or something, this would be an indoor dog and i dunno if thats something id care to deal with. Any thoughts on the severity of this problem?

sometimes they are in the ag review. beagles are really good for rabbits and the bigger ones are decent for deer. they won't run as far as the bigger dogs, but sometimes the deer can get away from them.
11/9/2006 9:46:46 PM
Yeah, if you are looking for information on beagles, you should talk to a hunter. They're used a lot to run rabbits. If you'd like to purchase an inexpensive puppy, this is also the route to go. Just pick up a bargain trader at a gas station or some other kind of magazine that caters to hunters and hunting supplies. My uncle use to raise and train beagles for rabbit hunting and you can usually pick up a puppy (esp. untrained) for very litle. And if I remember correctly, they do shed a lot. I do not remember if it is year round, but I do remember being covered in dog hair every time I had to help my uncle with the dogs. [Edited on November 9, 2006 at 10:04 PM. Reason : hair.]
11/9/2006 10:03:17 PM
They do shed a lot. That's why ours were outdoor dogs. And they have crazy huge poops. Basically a big hunting dog in a tiny cute package.
11/9/2006 10:36:56 PM
Beagles are great. Mine is really really laid back...just like any dog its how you train them.

after reading all the horror stories, i'm considering a bassett hound. sounds like their laid back temporment compliments my ridiculous work schedule better than a high energy hunting dog that requires 3 or 4 hours of attention a day.

^^ basset hounds are worse than beagles.. not the brightest breed and even more stubborn/hard to train than beagles.beagle>basset
11/10/2006 11:19:44 AM
^They bark annoyingly, but they don't destroy your house cause they're bored either. They can be prone to ear infections cause of those ears though.
11/10/2006 11:41:07 AM
Unless you have alot of money to spend on vet bills for ear infections and skins problems, I wouldn't recommend a Basset either...

There were four random beagles wandering around our neighborhood. I've almost hit one twice. IDK if they belong to anyone, but if so, they must not care about them very much. I say there "were" four because one got hit about a month ago...
11/10/2006 2:53:20 PM
^Even if someone DID care about them, I'm not surprised. One of ours, Belle, got out EVERY day. We did our best to keep her in, but she eventually learned to actually climb up the fence. It was crazy. We finally gave her to a farmer.

$700 is ridiculous for a beagle. You should be able to find an AKC registered beagle pup for $150 or less. Since beagles are hunters they are going to bark. Just go to an animal shelter and you should be able to find one there.
