^^ they're always cheap...flatscreens are on the way out with LCDs becoming so cheap...picture quality may be better on the high-end models, but you sacrifice a significant amount of desktop space, not to mention weight

I wouldn't say they're always cheap. If you're foolish enough to buy a CRT new, you'd likely pay $100 or more for a 17".
