Don't worry about it. If you can't figure out how to turn it off, the feature is doing more good protecting you than bad by annoying you.

is it a popup window, or is it when you hover over an ActiveX control you get an outline around the control and a tootip that says "Click to Activate".

If its the tooltip thing it has to do with a lawsuit against Microsoft and the way they use ActiveX. Everyone gets that now.

uh, for your version of IE, click "Help" -> "About", then look for "Version".

before you do the following, read my whole post.

if you're truly being annoyed by the activex windows that are trying to protect you from the evil that is activex, go into "Tools"-> "Internet Options" -> "Security" (Tab) -> "Custom Level" (Button) ... scroll down to "ActiveX controls and plug-ins", and either select "Enable" or "Disable" for all the activex options. if any of them say "Prompt", then you will continue to get the 'pop ups', as you called them.

of course, what you should do instead of setting a custom level for IE security, is just to reset it to Medium by dragging that vertical slider in the security tab back to "Medium". if it IS on medium already and you're getting those activex alerts, then you are visiting the wrong sites. the default settings for alerts are designed to only warn you when accessing unsigned (not trusted) content, such as trojans and the like.

all that said, i'd definitely suggest you just ... get Firefox http://www.getfirefox.com

What I love most about this is that there isn't an option to not run the damn thing.

tools>internet options>security>custom level>active x controls and plug-ins

probably the 'Automatic prompting for active x controls' or 'run active x controls and plug-ins' options
