Well, last year it worked for the NL East. Got to set the bar higher now.Latest news is that Glavine is close to signing a 2 year, incentive laden deal with the Mets that will take him to the end of his career. With Pedro out until the break in '07 this is a good first step in the offseason. He has shown no real signs of wear and they can trust him in the postseason, which is how I imagine this team will be built for 2007.

Least your team has a chance unlike the guy that made the Philies thread. The Mets should be the favorites next year with their lineup, especially if Oliver Perez pitches well.
11/1/2006 11:26:25 AM
Think they'll make an offer to Maddux? Than him and Glavine can retire together
11/1/2006 11:58:28 AM
Guillermo Mota was suspended 50 games for drugs. I'm sure it was a steroid of some kind but they haven't made that clear yet..
11/1/2006 2:34:50 PM
I hate the Mets, but you're a good fan so I will endorse this thread. That being said, I hope they winless verse the Cards.
11/1/2006 11:16:06 PM
Hopefully next season our entire team wont decide to get hurt in augustit was a good season nonetheless
11/1/2006 11:16:59 PM
Mets signed Alou to a 1 year, $7.5MM deal. I like it. Stopgap to Gomez or Fernando Martinez, both of whom will be equal prospects to Milledge. It allows Milledge to be used in a deal for a pitcher either preseason or midseason. Also they traded two minor league relievers for Jason Vargas and another 23 year old lefty starter in AAA. Stockpiling young arms for sure.
11/20/2006 5:57:32 PM
I have heard Glavine leaning more towards the Braves... he cant wait another 15 years for a division title
11/20/2006 5:59:09 PM
why the hell would they trade Lastings?
11/20/2006 6:10:09 PM
im looking forward to posting "taps" in this thread
11/20/2006 6:12:22 PM
I love when the mets do smart things like sign has beens like alou to one year deals worth tons of money[Edited on November 21, 2006 at 9:54 AM. Reason : .]
11/21/2006 9:53:54 AM
Beltran was watching when that happened
11/21/2006 4:56:20 PM
God i hope not
11/21/2006 6:57:37 PM
^^^ lol, that was widely regarded as one of the better deals this offseason to date. 1 year, market value for the production, and addresses a weakness (hitting against LHP).Anyway, ESPNRadio out here said the Mets offered Zito 6 years $105MM Well, they said it was 'reported' that they did... so who knows?[Edited on December 5, 2006 at 4:32 PM. 1/12/2007 12:12:21 PM
or he lied about his age, like every mexicaner, dominicaner, hispanicwhatever the fuck he is
1/12/2007 12:13:53 PM
alsothe 2007 mets are going to be a marginally better version of the 2006 bravesplenty of offense, solid closer, better bullpen, horrid rotationshould be fun!
1/12/2007 12:16:15 PM
79 days until opening day vs. Cards
1/12/2007 12:23:42 PM
^^ lol, the rotation isn't any worse than last year. In case you forgot we ran train over the entire NL East. The divison was over by the start of May.Plus, the bullpen is actually BETTER. Healthy Duaner, Heilman comfortable with his role, Juan Padilla back healthy for middle relief, Schoenweiss signed, Feliciano coming off his best year, Vargas as the long man, Wagner acclimated to NYC..Don't sleep on Mike Pelfrey or Philip Humber, both of whom will be better than Trachsel and whatever scrub we found on the streets to be our 5 last year (Gonzalez, Lima, Dave Williams, etc)...[Edited on January 12, 2007 at 12:28 PM. Hiram Kyle Davies is his full name? WTF..Davies was a high school draft pick from the 3rd or 4th round (??) and Pelfrey/Humber were both Top 5 picks who went to top level colleges and performed. Humber probably won't be in the rotation, but Pelfrey DOMINATED the minors and looked decent in his first go around in the bigs.. I'm fully confident he'd be an upgrade at 4 or 5...
1/12/2007 12:34:01 PM
Glavine. I love that guy. but I still never understood why he chose the mets You'll never steal Smoltz.
1/12/2007 1:00:40 PM
omar must have tons of confidence in our young pitching staffbut i trust his judgement
1/12/2007 2:13:07 PM
Mets = 3rd place
1/12/2007 10:39:13 PM
Cubbies will win it all, no doubt
1/13/2007 5:13:38 PM
^ is this before or after they get ditched by the Trib and are in so much debt they will have Florida Marlins type firesale?
1/18/2007 3:18:12 PM
Cliff Floyd goes to ChicagoDelgado may miss first few games of season for his child's birth
1/24/2007 5:14:31 PM
I think the thing I'm looking forward to the most is seeing if Rick Peterson can turn around Ollie Perez and get him back to what he can be. I read an article on SNY.tv this morning that was pretty good... He gained back all his lost velocity in only 4 weeks with an organization that knows how to handle it's pitchers (the Pirates are known for fucking up young pitchers recently)..I think he can be a very solid 15 win pitcher this year...
1/24/2007 5:24:00 PM
New York Mets: 2007 World Series Champions would make my year.
1/24/2007 8:46:38 PM
What's up with John Maine doing all the charity stuff this offseason in the Mets Caravan?Usually it's the vets but Maine seems look a good guy...
1/30/2007 11:54:19 PM
i've heard stories about maine being such a douche so it surprises me as well
1/31/2007 12:57:19 AM
What a dumb fucking signing. Why the hell would we sign Chan Ho Park? Pelfrey and Humber would both do better given a full compliment of starts this year. I hope he fails the physical.
2/9/2007 11:37:19 AM
Pedro
2/14/2007 2:57:32 PM
^^^^^
2/15/2007 3:45:43 AM
this again?(not the mets, baseball)
2/15/2007 4:23:10 AM
I for one am excited and think it is somewhat of a blessing to be without pedro for the first half. Hopefully, he can have a strong injury free second half. Its not like there's much competition in the NL East anyway [Edited on February 15, 2007 at 4:18 PM. Reason : 1]

Everyone reported today. Anyway, Reyes added 7 pounds of muscle; and Milledge added 13 pounds of muscle! Here's how I would set things up come opening day if I had a say1 SS Reyes2 C Lo Duca3 CF Beltran (who btw said his goal is to win MVP and the World Series)4 1B Delgado5 3B Wright6 LF Alou7 RF Milledge -> Green will likely be the starter8 2B Valentin1 SP Glavine2 SP El Duque3 SP Maine4 SP Perez5 SP Pelfrey -> it will almost certainly be ParkBullpen is still stellar with Heilman, Sanchez, and Wagner forming the best 7-8-9 in baseball (well maybe 2nd best behind LAofAAAofAAofAnaheim). Rotation is certainly the weakness but I think Perez can be effective with Rick Peterson's guidance..[Edited on February 20, 2007 at 3:48 PM. Reason : we'll see. fuck some phillies too.]
2/20/2007 3:47:09 PM
i bet none of milledge's added weight was in his brain!that rotation is going to kill you guys
2/20/2007 3:50:53 PM
The Braves aren't relevant to me anymore so forgive me if I don't respond to your trolls this season (not that your last post was a troll -- just wanted to let you know). I hope some Philfthies fans get on TWW though. Rollins thinks they should be the favorites .. Hey Jimmy, make the playoffs more than once every 15 years, you piece of shit and tell your boy Ryan Howard to lay off the twinkies before Alou pisses on him at 1B...
2/20/2007 3:55:01 PM
^ ha ha yeah right the Braves aren't relevant anymore to you. I guarantee you'll be pulling against them all season because you're afraid Cox might pull some magic again this year now that his bullpen isn't the abortion is was last year. The Phillies will choke because they still have Pat Burrell. The Mets lineup is impressive though...
2/20/2007 4:59:49 PM
we all know that if wickman had been in atlanta last season the braves would have won the division anyway, and seeing how bad the mets pitching is this year, they should be no challenge to smoltz and company, whos pitching staff is back on track
2/20/2007 5:36:33 PM
you fuckers trip me out with your false hope
2/20/2007 7:05:50 PM
yeah, the braves pulled a Beltran last year, and watched the season go by, but not this year
2/20/2007 7:29:58 PM
Good it would suck to be a mets fan. To be in the shadow of the yankees. Man that sucks.
2/20/2007 10:58:34 PM
Yeah, what with sharing the best record in baseball and making it further into the playoffs than them and all.
2/20/2007 11:18:16 PM
2/20/2007 11:59:53 PM
I honestly hate the Phillies so much more than Atlanta right now. I mean for pure ignorance you can't beat Braves fans obviously but the actual players and organization of the Philfthies just gets my blood boiling..[Edited on February 21, 2007 at 12:35 AM. Reason : i mean seriously.. why is philly being all uppity... they make the pirates look like a quality team]
2/21/2007 12:33:33 AM

The Braves are suffering and will suffer more because of Mazzone being gone. If you don't believe it go take a look at all your decent pitchers' stats before Leo, during, and afterCox won't be pulling shit out of his ass this year except to maybe finish above .500
