For a new build?Quad core, Directx 10, Vista...Should I just wait a couple months?

if you've got $texas lying around, go for it

there's a couple breeds of upgraders, if you consider yourself an early adopter go for it, otherwise it can never hurt to wait (for lower prices/proven tech/service packs/games that actually use dx10 and quad core, etc)

I'd say wait. But then again I carefully wash and store food containers for later use.

if you're happy with your current system wait till vista comes out. and till they actually start making programs that work with it

are directx 10 video cards out yet?

i just built a new computer last month that i figure will last for quite some time to allow for 1. vista to become stable with updates, etc2. games to be written to optimize vista's new capabilities3. directx 10 to be released4. directx 10 to be utilized in gamesplus, an AMD X2 rig for ~$1000 isnt too shabby for me either.

and for video cards to be HDCP compliant

really depends on what you want to do with the computer. Specially HD material. There's only a handful of HD certified hardware currently. In order to play HD material, you'd need an HD compatible video card, monitor, and player if your using an optical media.

well if your going to use HD DVD on a computer... you'll need new hardware.

And if you're going to get something with a fairly large widescreen lcd as the monitor... why not get something that can play HD content on it? In general it's good to try to get HDCP compatable hardware. The annoyances of discovering you need and don't have it later are greater than the 50 bucks extra you may spend on something now. There's a fairly wide selection of medium to high end HDCP compatable graphics cards out there, though HDCP compatable computer monitors are a little scarcer.[Edited on October 30, 2006 at 7:29 AM.
