TigerDirect Hope it works and hope you get the rebate.
10/27/2006 12:10:03 PM
I've heard a couple bad things about TigerDirect but my experiences are pretty goodbut assuming I do get the rebate, its basically a laptop for $400!
10/27/2006 12:40:16 PM
i was about to say nice deal (assuming the rebate works out)but i'm curious about westinghouse laptops...did you do any research on them?
10/27/2006 12:47:37 PM
not really...and i didnt even know they made them...so i'm kind of taking a leap of faith...but they make some good appliances!
10/27/2006 12:51:11 PM
have people really had that bad of experiences with tigerdirect? They have some of the best deals I've seen, but people are constantly bashing them...i was thinking about ordering something from them too
10/27/2006 1:01:57 PM
go look up the hundreds of BBB filings against them. They are notoriously shady and unreliable with rebates
10/27/2006 1:03:38 PM
^^ i love their local store (for things I don't have to worry about returns on) but refuse to order anything from their website.
10/27/2006 1:16:21 PM
yea, the store is great for buying a replacement while something gets RMA'd elsewhere, being sure to return it within 30 days, of course.
10/27/2006 1:20:07 PM
^hell naw, they stick you with the 15% return and try to stick you with store credit only. More trouble than it's worth
10/27/2006 1:52:16 PM
15% is fine by me if i need to borrow something for a few days or a week while an rma happens. though, i'm impatient, that's likely my problem.
10/27/2006 2:38:21 PM
tiger direct scares me
10/27/2006 3:06:15 PM
i'll be sure to report back and let you know if i receive it next week
10/27/2006 3:14:57 PM
*sings* Save a lot of money when you buy direct
10/28/2006 5:04:54 PM
i tried tigerdirect once - ordered a dvi-hdmi cable. site said ships in 1-2 days. i get an e-mail after two days saying it had been sent to a processing center and would ship in 7-9 days. needless to say i will be sticking with newegg from here on out

http://www.slickdeals.net/#p2797this is a sweet deal
10/29/2006 12:20:53 AM
Tiger Direct's outlet store absolutely sucks. I'd rather wait a week and get it from newegg than buy from tigerdirect
10/29/2006 12:52:30 AM
10/29/2006 1:28:05 AM
yo i would take synapses advice...i consider him the most tech savvy jew on tww
10/29/2006 2:53:15 AM
^^^....Not to mention it will take 3 weeks while you wait in line at that place. There is only ever one dude at the desk and he seriously could care less about the line.
10/29/2006 7:40:07 AM
don't forget shipping and tax $++++
10/29/2006 8:27:57 AM
15%? I bought a card for my camera and it didnt work and the guys took there time and opened cards to see which one worked for mine
10/29/2006 1:40:13 PM
They have some good prices on some components in store, but tax kills the deal. better to get it online with free shipping and no tax.

only if their 1505 could support the 7900gs...
10/29/2006 9:45:35 PM
yeah... but if gaming isn't a priority, it's a fairly nice laptop.
10/29/2006 9:58:53 PM
I was looking at the same deal. Could the 1505 be used for gaming, say WoW or BF? It's close to the price I'm shooting for.
10/30/2006 1:57:13 PM
It'll PLAY those games... and handle WoW just fine. The x1400 isn't going to do anything impressive with BF or games like oblivion.
10/30/2006 2:00:00 PM
I don't know if you can get it as a part of the education discount - but the Inspiron 9400 will let you upgrade to the 7900 GS and you can match all those other specs for less than the price above... it is an Inspiron and all... but for someone like me it is a space saver gaming machine with mobility when needed on flights.
10/30/2006 3:22:31 PM
Eh, if anything I'd be going lighter. I was kind of torn between the E1405 and E1505. I kind of want to be able to game on it, which would rule out the 1405 but I want it to be portable. Anyone have the E1505? Does the weight get on your nerves? The E1505 hasn't shipped yet so I think I could change the order, but meh.[Edited on October 30, 2006 at 3:36 PM. Reason : ]

i have an Inspiron 6000 (now almost 2 yrs old, wow), of which the E1505 is a descendant of ... the weight is normal, not heavy, not light ... and i definitely don't find the weight annoying at all.
10/30/2006 3:49:58 PM
ah alright, because with the battery it comes in at around 6.5 lbs. if you carry the adapter with it I think it goes up to around 6.9 or 7[Edited on October 30, 2006 at 3:53 PM. Reason : ]
10/30/2006 3:52:45 PM
i also have the Inspiron 700m, it's an awesome 4 lbs ... you can find it or the 710m from Dell Outlet these days ... i think it's descendant is the XPS M1210 or the Latitude D420 (which starts at 3 lbs).yea, those are the small 12.1" screens, but the laptops are great and very usable for extended portability, honestly you don't ever feel like you're carrying around extra weight.

This is the link to the 9400 page - pulled from the 30% off email linkhttp://www.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/inspn_9400?c=us&cs=04&l=en&s=bsd
10/30/2006 4:20:06 PM
apparently you cant use the 30% off on the 9400. not sure why.
10/30/2006 4:43:00 PM
so I talked to a guy and he said30% off Inspiron B130, E1405, E1505, E1705 priced at least $1299 10/27-11/03so its limited with the coupon.

e1705's are around 8lbs, e1505 is about 6, e1405 is about 4.5. The x1400 can play games of today, but the 7900gs is so worth the upgrade if you play games. And to note, the x1400 uses cache ram for half of its video ram so you really only have 128 of dedicated video ram, the other 128 is borrowed from system memory (just like Nvidia's turbo cache for the 7600's.) The x1300 128 only has 64mb of dedicated memory, the other 64 is also borrowed. Here's a comparison of the x1400 and the 7900gs mobile graphics. http://www.anandtech.com/showdoc.aspx?i=2766&p=6[Edited on October 30, 2006 at 9:31 PM. Received it today (ordered on Friday with standard shipping, so pretty quick turnaround)Still in the Windows Update phases but it seems like a very good deal
10/31/2006 3:59:47 PM
^^ I really wish the 7600 gs was availible in the E1505 or E1405... ah well
10/31/2006 5:40:58 PM
ive ordered 3 things from tiger direct. All 3 were late. One arrived broken and they refused to take it back for a bit (finally did after bitching for awhile). my rebates took about 3times as long to get as they did when i ordered stuff from newegg.i order everything from newegg now
