greenshields - i used to go there all the time when they were at the market square, but i haven't been since they've moved. the bangers & mash (i know it's more british than irish) was dank. their brews are some of my favorites. i was in serious withdrawal when the closed because of that fire.hibernian (south glenwood location) - i've only had the wings at the cary location. i ate the shepard's pie once, and i remember it being pretty good. i've only had shepard's pie like at 2 other places though, so my frame of comparison is pretty narrow.tir na nog - never eaten their, but it's an irish pub and restaurant. a little more dressy than the first two places i listed, and i'm guessing it's a little more pricey too. i can't imagine the food being bad. the bar is a fun place to drink at though.o'malley's - it's up in north raleigh. a friend of mine used to bartend there. i've never had the food there either, but they've got cheap drink specials.[Edited on October 27, 2006 at 7:03 AM. for food i prefer tir na nog

There is no "good" place for Irish food. Unless, by good you mean, the place that serves the most fragrant, least shitty tasting shit.

tir na nog is definitely good. Most meals are in the $9-12 or so, and everything I have had there has been very good. You will be very full afterwards, not exactly conducive to drinking stout beer.

Tir Na Nog it is. Thanks TWW!

Restaurant.com has Tir Na Nog gift certificates normally $10 for a $25 GC (min purchase of $35 before coupon) but until the 31st, you can get them for $4 with coupon code 44355.http://www.restaurant.com/microsite.asp?rid=317529&PageSize=50&Page=1&Zip=27606&SearchRadius=15Hope that helps.

Order the Beef Wellington at Tir Na Nog. It's kind of expensive, but it's excellent! I can't vouch for how Irish the dish is, though--it sounds English, actually. PS: Description and price of the dish:"Beef Wellington - Fillet of beef wrapped in a puff pastry with an onion and mushroom stuffing served with a red wine jus and a selection of vegetables and potatoes - $18.50."

Greenshields downtown was tight. Haven't been since it re-opened in Cary though, but I'd bet it's worth a visit.Ri Ra had a pretty good lunch buffet for like $5 when I was in college. I miss that.I usually hit up Tir Na Nog. Never really been let down there.

is greenshields still brewing, or are they strictly a restaurant now that they've moved to cary?
10/28/2006 4:20:25 AM
restaurant only. and the food sucks. as do the servers.
10/28/2006 12:03:31 PM
that's pretty gay.

the hibernian is good for drinks and beer but fuck if I will ever eat their food again at the one in Cary.My boyfriend had to pull over to the side of the road on the way home so I could puke up whatever nastiness they served me. I tried their food again, thinking the first time must have been a fluke--- nope, sick to my stomach for the rest of the night.
10/29/2006 11:50:54 AM
there's a reason i specified the glenwood south hibernian.
10/29/2006 11:52:52 AM
the shepards pie at hibernian is damn good.
10/29/2006 11:56:20 AM
