Well technically neither will you.

I don't think camping out is really necessary with the Wii. Nintendo's promising one million systems at launch. If they all sold out, it would be REALLY unprecedented. I'm gonna stroll up to Wal-Mart on launch day a few hours early.

^yeah you might have some trouble on day one but with as many as the big N is supposed to already have made it shouldn't be too troublesome to track down within a couple weeks

Yeah, they didn't have some of the problems Microsoft had with hardware production because they already had all the necessary parts lying around from unsold Gamecubes.

That's silly. There will be enough Wiis for everyone that wants one.

"Walmart, Target and Best Buy will definitely get the lion's share of the shipments. I would assume the three combined will have around half of whatever Nintendo will have available on November 19. EB Games and GameStop are specialty chains, and although they can move a lot of game hardware, they aren't as mainstream as the big retailers. I've heard that they'll have around 25% of the initial Wii shipment to distribute amongst their stores, which is pretty good, but still less than the big boys."

Not the most reputable source, but it's definitely something to consider.

nice find i guess, but really is that any surprise? almost every town has a walmart or target (to a lesser extent best buy). most eb/gamestops are gonna be in a mall which are less prominent in rural areas.

1 million on launch isn't that much.

There will be about 500k PS3s and those are suppose to be in tight supply. I don't see how merely doubling that will end supply problems. For example, with the Xbox 360, which I think had similar numbers on launch, the best buy had about 10 in stock. There were easily 10 more people waiting that wanted one. If you want a Wii, you'll probably be able to get one before Christmas, but you'll have to do some work to get one on launch, i'm guessing.

Actually the numbers I've heard have been one million Wiis at launch in the US.

Sony has said 400k PS3s worldwide with slightly less than half of those coming to the US. And some reports are claiming that they will have trouble meeting those numbers, whereas no such reports have been made about Nintendo.

So it's really more like 1 million verses less than 200,000.

I just haven't heard much about games coming out for the Wii, and I'm not sure how good the graphics are going to be, or even how much better than the Gamecube they will be. I would buy one in a heartbeat if they were going to support HD, but they're not, so that's the big dissapointment to me.

However, when Mario Kart and Smash Brothers come out, then I'll probably have to get one, unless the whole thing stinks.

The Wii is going to support 480p widescreen, which is the best you can get out of a DVD. If DVDs look good to you, you'll be perfectly happy with a Wii.

That's plenty. To my knowledge, no home console has launched with that big of a shipment. The most any console in recent memory has launched with is 700,000, which were the numbers for the original Xbox and GC. From that same story, I linked above:

Quote :
"If you want a better reason not to worry as much, look at the PSP. The pre-launch hype and apparent demand for it was through the roof, and Sony had 1 million handhelds ready to go on the first day. The long midnight lines and predictions of sell-outs nationwide turned into a first day sell-though of 550,000 units, with another 100k sold during the rest of the week. Impressive, yes, but not the launch the hype was pointing at. (One could argue that even Sony was caught up in its own hype, spinning the launch day "disaster" with the touting of $250 million in sales—of a $250 product and $50 games—instead of proclaiming the sellouts they were expecting.)"

The ONLY reason the Wii could sell out on day one is the hype for Zelda: TP shoots through the roof. Right now many expect it to be the best Zelda ever (which pretty much would put it in the top 10-20 games ever), but nobody's played anything beyond the E3 demos. If reviews for Zelda live up to expectations, then that will get Wii units moving more than the controller will. But even with that, some people might just save their cash and pick up the GC version two weeks later.

^^ They don't look good anymore after comparing to HD. I know this is picky, but I've got a 1080p ready tv, so I want to have a console that is going to be putting out HD picture quality. just my opinion though. Nintendos lack of expensive fatures and HD quality will be all apart of what makes this a successful console.

I love Nintendo and I think its going to be a great system as long as there are a lot of good games, and they are able to get some good fun use out of that controller.

a lot of the problem you see in DVD is due to compression artifacts - not the resolution

the Wii will not have compression artifacts

Nintendo really planned this one out

the Christmas shopping moms will be looking for a $texas and unfindable PS3, then they'll see a $250 Wii and be like, hey!

seriously. you underestimate the power of a whiney kid. even if it is a game system it is much cheaper and not hyped to be the power box the ps3 is.

[Edited on October 28, 2006 at 11:38 AM. Reason : it'll help sales, but it wont put nintendo through the roof.]

^ No dizzle

I know because some rich mom in New Jersey paid me close to $900 for an Xbox 360 last year when the kid could've had something way more awesome for $900. And that was sans games.

the difference is that any kid asking for a ps3 is obviously fucking retarded. First, for expecting their parents to spend $600+ dollars on them (esp. on a single item); and second, for actually wanting a system that will have no games at launch and only one worth playing any time soon.

well, if you consider the rate at which preorders are selling out, for the wii, i wonder how long these units will take to physically sell out on launch day

It'll be alright. Fuckin best buys are averaging like 60-90 units per store. Then you got walmarts and targets and the other big box shops that will have an assload.

I work at toys r us in the video games section, they hate their employees, I wasn't even allowed to wait for one, and I have to put up with all the shit of working there, it sucks. The first people in line bought a ps3 pre-order and wii pre-order and 2 tickle me elmo TMXs. They rang them all up separate, they are going to make a killing.

i'm normally not "that guy" who stands in a line to get the first ones, but zelda is worth it
