wondering if the online version would be better than the classroom one. it's taught by reiland this semester, and he's gotten some good reviews. i looked at his webpage for the online class, and it makes it sound pretty easy.. 10 quizzes, a lot of hmwks but you get multiple chances, and it doesn't mention any tests.so, has anyone taken it? comments on it? should i take it?!

umm i took ST 311 back in the Spring of 06 in the classroom part and the class couldnt of been any easier. Right now im in ST 301 with Reiland, and his tests are very simple, so they should be pretty much the same. I am a stat major, so idk if that will matter at all, but the class is easy no matter what. He is a pretty good teacher though, and he is my advisor.

i'm taking it online right now.HW's are a pain in the ass because there's so many of them. 10 Quizzes and 277pts worth of HW.You get multiple submissions on quizzes and HWs depending on the question (T/F you obviously get one guess, but yea it varies from problem to problem...)As far as I know -- no final or no test's.

hmm thanks for all the advice!jmpack15, are there lectures? or is it just assigned readings from the book/you teaching yourself?

With the book comes some sort of help disk. It's pretty much teach yourself but Dr. Reiland responds to any questions and also sends the whole class questions that other people ask with his replies. I've done some of the HW's and done fine on the first 4 quizzes. I could probably do better if I applied myself a bit more, but oh well.I encourage you to take it if you're on the fence about it. It might be easier in class, but it's not difficult on the internet if you have a busy on-campus schedule.

Reiland is one of the reasons I went for ST as a second major ... was doing it as a minor and then decided to go with the major. Either format you take him in you'll probably enjoy. So far as which format is better, it probably largely depends on your learning style. I personally prefer a lecture style format of some sort (even if it's recorded video), and learn best that way. I've also taken an online course and did fine doing it on my own time. ST311 isn't killer hard, but may be a completely alien subject to you the first time you take it, kinda like a foreign language. Just make sure you set time aside if you do the online version.
