I have a 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse RS with 133,000 miles. The only thing the car needs is a new timing belt. To have this done by a mechanic costs between $300 and $400 of which I do not have. The car is a 5 speed, has 16 inch alloy wheels (off of Dodge Avenger) , cd player w/ remote, small amp, all factory speakers are replaced with Power Acoustic speakers (6x9's, 4 1/2's, tweets), had oil changed at every 3,000-4,000 miles and has a clear title. $800. I don't want to part with the car, but I can't afford to get it fixed and I need money for upcoming tuition. Pictures in the gallery. I made sure to include all exterior flaws in the pictures.

did the timing belt snap or something? Is the car drivable now? I'm interested.
10/23/2006 8:26:43 PM
did the belt break while it was running?
10/23/2006 8:28:10 PM
no it snapped at start up
10/23/2006 8:31:13 PM
the car is not drivable until the timing belt is repaired
10/23/2006 8:31:45 PM
typically if the owner can't afford a minor fix that cost between $3-400 - the owner probably didn't change the oil every 3-4,000 miles - usually...
10/23/2006 8:33:21 PM
typically..one doesn't sell a good car for $800....but when it comes to a money crunch I HAVE to make this much money in order to attend class next semester...thanks for your insight into my dilemma...and yes the oil was changed this often...it isn't hard to do you know...neither expensive
10/23/2006 8:44:08 PM
usually good doesn't go with car and $800...
10/23/2006 9:31:24 PM
Will you take $600 cash?
10/23/2006 9:33:43 PM
no, i really need $800...sorry
10/23/2006 9:45:56 PM
I hate to break it to you, but that engine could be ruined.I doubt you will get $800, but good luck.
10/23/2006 9:54:26 PM
thank you for "breaking it to me" and all you nay-sayers...if you doubt me...I will be more than happy to let you check the car out for yourselves...provided you are interested in buying it
10/23/2006 10:03:16 PM
you might get 500 at a junkyard if your lucky.
10/23/2006 10:07:14 PM
^^ you are welcome
10/23/2006 10:12:53 PM
Something wrong with airbags? Pasenger's looks used. PS: check PM.
10/23/2006 10:39:44 PM
nothing wrong with the airbag...I just wanted to update the look of the interior of the car a couple of years ago...and stripped the glued "stock" piece from the airbag and placed an upholstered piece of vinyl in its place.
10/23/2006 10:45:31 PM
^ oh, no wonder I originally mistook it for a 2007 Eclipse
10/23/2006 11:07:16 PM
if you mistook my car for a 2007...you really helped validate all other thought provoking comments you made earlier
10/23/2006 11:11:01 PM
other way around, the 3.0 is not an interference motor.but the other mitsus are.so if it broke while car was on, or on startup depending on what your def. of startup is, then there is chance something is messed up.or it could be fine. the man says its fine, so you queers just need to go look at it[Edited on October 23, 2006 at 11:32 PM. 10/23/2006 11:28:24 PM
its the 2.0...and thank you
10/23/2006 11:31:01 PM
check my edit.
10/23/2006 11:33:58 PM
well my offer of 600 still stands if you change your mind. Thanks
10/24/2006 10:21:30 AM
chances are the valves are bent if the belt broke upon starting...just my opinion... ill give u 605
10/24/2006 11:14:53 AM
the rs is the 2L sohc neon motor.
10/24/2006 12:11:18 PM
I'm glad you found my sarcasm thought provoking Simon, now carry on with the sale of this vehicle.
10/24/2006 12:12:40 PM
10/24/2006 2:27:17 PM
thanks for the go ahead...i think i will continue now garfus99as far as the valves being shot...i'm pretty sure they aren't...i am not 100% sure of this since I am not a mechanic and haven't personally inspected them...however, like stated before...you can check the car out for yourselves and bring a mechanic along (the person interested in buying the car is doing so tomorrow)
10/24/2006 4:41:09 PM
if you don't know how to change a timing belt, then chances of you knowing how to check for bent valves is slim to none.
10/24/2006 8:46:29 PM
Now that's what I call a QUALITY speaker install!]]
10/25/2006 6:04:36 AM
WHY is there so much trolling in this thread?YOU EITHER WANT TO BUY IT OR NOT.Damn! I almost thought this was chitchat for a sec
10/25/2006 6:20:46 AM
^ because this guy is telling us that the timing belt snapped on a motor that could possibly have bent valves, and he is claiming there isnt any without any "expert opinions".
10/25/2006 8:52:07 AM
I have a look at this car yesterday. It's nice. Especially, back of the car. If you want to have a nice car, spend some time and money - make this baby running - It's a perfect choice for you.
10/25/2006 12:08:05 PM
^^^ the trolling is due to the fact that he is a selling a vehicle that may have serious engine damage, yet he is claiming no damage exists. His claim is not substantiated by anything other than his personal opinion, yet he appears to have no idea of the damage that could be caused by the belt snapping, so his opinion is worthless to the potential buyer.Basically, this thing ain't gonna sell on here with such an incomplete description/understanding of the work needed to get the vehicle on the road again. If it weren't for the trolling this thread would have died off days ago, we are keeping it alive for entertainment purposes only.

ill trade ya a custom built AR-15!?!? with 300rounds of ammo????
10/27/2006 2:28:39 AM
how long ago was the clutch replaced? When did you purchase this? What owner # are you?
10/27/2006 6:54:20 AM
did you smoke in the car?did you drive it hard? (be honest)can you reinstall the original airbag cover, shifter top, tail light and headlight lenses?do you have the original rims?do you have the original speaker covers?lastly, if i showed serious interest, would you fix it before selling it, if the sale price matched the car + repair fees?Ben
10/27/2006 9:20:04 PM
if the engine is an interference engine and the timing belt snapped, with most mid 90's dodges and mitsubishi's not only is there a %95 chance the valves are bent, but the head warps and most of the time it is screwed and you need to buy a new one, either way it will cost well over a grand. i worked in a machine shop over the summer and saw many of these cases, best chance especially with an eclipse is to pull a motor out of a wrecked car in a junkyard and drop it in, saving lots of money
10/27/2006 9:31:36 PM
^ok dude, we get it, it could be fucked up.
10/27/2006 10:12:40 PM
I disagree with fourty8ashes. There is only a 93.8% chance that the valves are bent.
10/28/2006 12:01:16 AM
^are you stupid? nowadays its 89.45% chance.get with it man
10/28/2006 12:02:40 AM
My bad. I only know how to work on Scandanavian cars.
10/28/2006 12:36:03 AM
I'll take it, check you pms. my brother runs a shop... so.. it'l be pretty cheap to fix & flip.
