Going to the U. of Illinois to interview a bunch of people, but will have plenty of free time to explore. For those that have been there, anything cool to see/do?Otherwise, I'll just park myself in a bar and drink until I can't feel feelings anymore.

I'd say I-57 all the way up to the Dan Ryan and into Chicago, but you don't wanna waste 90 minutes of driving here by spending 200 minutes sitting in weekend traffic.

Chicago

yeah, chicago is too far for the amount of time I have. plus i've been there countless times.I figured it was basically a college town in the middle of a cornfield, but thought i'd check if anyone had been there.

I've got family there. I haven't been there in a long time. If I remember correctly there was a big hill...that we walked to the top of. Plus you can see the shed my dad put in his back yard it's still there, probably to the fact that it has a 2.5 foot deep concrete pad. (The perks of driving a concrete truck)

Downtown chicago is fucking awesome, it's got some kinda glorious collection shop every 5 feet.

I've got a lot of friends in Chambana. But I'm not so sure about anything special there.

I visited Galesburg Illinois once. A town underwhelming there's a Mountain Goats album about it.

if someone else is paying for dinner, check out radio maria. there's also a funky collection of outdoor bars, restaurants, and an old arthouse theater a few blocks from campus (more easily accessible by car than on foot, but worth checking out). immediately close to campus, you'll find some pretty tasty indian food. avoid the thai place at all costs. i was there for a conference ~2 years ago and a bunch of folks got sick there --i think it was called lime or lemongrass or something. there are a lot of dive bars within walking distance of campus (50 cent drafts, drunk folks at 2pm), iirc.[Edited on October 22, 2006 at 1:51 PM.
