Among the 10 candidates, they mentioned Bobby Petrino and Tyrone Willingham from Washington..... http://www.newsobserver.com/122/story/500117.html

lol, why would Petrino make a lateral move? He has the run of recruits in KY and a conference he could compete year in and year out for the best bowls in. He isn't leaving to come to a second rate program like UNC. He didn't leave for freaking LSU even.
10/19/2006 2:19:56 PM
UNC will probably hire from the out of coaching coaches or the NFL
10/19/2006 2:21:49 PM
I don't think UNC would be a lateral move. It would definately be a step back for Petrino. UNC is nowhere near what Louisville is in football. Their two games against them in the last few years proved that point.
10/19/2006 2:22:50 PM
cough burke cough
10/19/2006 2:22:54 PM
Out of that list, I can see Steve Logan, the Rutgers coach and maybe the Tulsa coach...
10/19/2006 2:23:55 PM
Justin Burke? He would have been behind one of the best QBs in the nation who already had a very, very good backup (cantwell) for 2 years. I bet Petrino didn't even go after him and waste a scholly..^^^ I was speaking more of program prestige/tradition. Obviously UL is leagues ahead of UNC right now..[Edited on October 19, 2006 at 2:24 PM. Reason : x]

I was thinking about this the other night. When does Spurrier's contract end at South Carolina? I wonder if he would be back on the radar.....or on the "reserve contacts list" while UNC gave Bunting another couple of years.
10/19/2006 2:27:22 PM
keep bunting, hes awesome
10/19/2006 2:32:02 PM
My dream-come-true would be for UNC to go on a deep coaching search only to get turned down by every major/midmajor and Div. 2 coach so they have to settle with Alge Crumpler after Torry Holt makes a mockery of them by offering his services as a joke...
10/19/2006 2:35:20 PM
I think we can all agree that Miami and UNC will be the schools that need new coaches at the end of the season. I do not see Willingham or Pertrino going anywhere. Everyone else will surely look at Miami before they consider going to UNC.
10/19/2006 2:36:02 PM
Idk though. Becoming a Miami coach would mean alot of pressure. Atleast UNC doesn't have expectations...
10/19/2006 2:38:25 PM
i could see logan doing it
10/19/2006 2:45:01 PM
unfortunately, I could see Logan doing it as well. That wouldn't be good for us...
10/19/2006 2:46:23 PM
Logan is quite content with his NFL europe job. He'd get better offers than UNC if he showed an interest in coming back to college football. UNC's problem is that they'd never fork out the dough. Spurrier would go back to Duke before UNC.
10/19/2006 2:46:55 PM
I just wish we could change coaches in a sport without all the media trolling. It seems as if we are doing the wrong thing no matter what the situation.
10/19/2006 2:48:21 PM
I want UNC to get rid of Bunting and get Grobe. Not going to happen, but thats what I want...
10/19/2006 2:49:09 PM
Why would Patterson leave TCU or Leach leave Texas Tech for UNC???The only realistic ones are Johnson from Navy, Johnson from Vandy, and Logan.Logan is the one I could see taking it the most. He got a raw deal at ECU.
10/19/2006 2:49:35 PM
The UNC football job is just not that attractive. Playing second fiddle to basketball will not appeal to many of the coaches on their list. They'll wind up doing the same thing they did before:1) Claim big names as interviewers.2) Claim big names could not stand up to UNC standards when said big names turn down job.3) Hire alumnus coach who goes sub .500 for half a decade or more.4) Repeat steps 1 through 4.I could see a Catholic priest applying for that job.... Or Mark Foley maybe....
10/19/2006 2:50:02 PM
^^^why???[Edited on October 19, 2006 at 2:50 PM. Reason : .]
10/19/2006 2:50:16 PM
Paul Johnson would kill us too. Navy plays just like Wake who obviously owns us. Navy just doesn't quite have the athletes that Wake does...and UNC can get better athletes than Wake or Navy.I think Johnson is the scariest name on the list for us.
10/19/2006 2:50:34 PM
The only reason UNC can get better athletes than Navy is their affiliation with the ACC and the fact that they're a state supported university...
10/19/2006 2:52:09 PM
i hate it when unc fans refer to the tarheels as "us", shit confuses me and i dont keep track of who's a faggot and who isnt
10/19/2006 2:55:52 PM
thats why we got issued the 3-D terminator glasses at freshman orientation. whenever you see a unc fan with your NCSU basic-issued glasses, there is a dick stamped to the front of their skull to let you know who the enemy is.
10/19/2006 2:58:59 PM
o no wonder, i skipped orientation
10/19/2006 3:01:16 PM
for those of you that think UNC could land Logan....i fart in your general directionUNC would have to throw more money than the general assembly would allow to land him as he is happy w/ NFL-Ei think you can pretty bank on not seeing him coaching in NCAA for several years unless some dream job comes up and the UNC is job is no dreamSpurrier, are you kidding me....i hope that was a joke / have you forgot that he shot them down once in 2003 (?year)butch davis....give me a break / if he goes back into coaching it will be to replace Larry Cocksucker at the Uwhy in the hell would you want UNC to go for grobe. are you a tarhole?
10/19/2006 3:40:14 PM
I've heard the heaviest talk from some deep UNC alums that Butch Davis is the leader right now.
10/19/2006 4:40:06 PM
10/19/2006 4:45:21 PM
Not sure any change will happen. There's a wild card in the deck: UNC's AD only has a year left on his contract. I don't know if a coach will want to walk into that situation.
10/19/2006 4:45:24 PM
10/19/2006 4:46:35 PM
They just aren't giving Bunting enough time. It takes decades to build a successful program.
10/19/2006 4:50:05 PM
did they really put petrino on carolina's possible next coach list??? wow. just wow.
10/19/2006 4:53:56 PM
as bad as we suck, i wouldn't be at all surprised if bunting remained next year, because in each of his years he's managed to come up with excuses as to why he sucked so bad. this year it'll be "young qb, no o-line, loss of star players, crappy coaching....er, oops
10/19/2006 5:32:55 PM
i'm not talking shit about Bunting's coaching ability until we beat him
10/19/2006 6:04:00 PM
They should hire Larry Coker
10/19/2006 6:21:50 PM
Fights would be kewl in Carter Finley
10/19/2006 6:23:26 PM
hey should hire Gary Patterson.he's mormon
10/19/2006 6:26:15 PM
10/19/2006 7:39:45 PM
^ it's not as if we are the standard of excellence in football. whether they beat us or not, bunting is still a bad coach.i hope he stays though, i don't know if they could get a worse coach.
10/19/2006 8:59:27 PM
Bill Cowher.Flame on.
10/20/2006 12:23:03 PM
10/20/2006 12:49:58 PM
Logan will not go to UNC. you can pretty much put your life savings on that. He got a RAW deal at ECU because he was doing one heck of a job there and ECU fans got in their heads they could go big time and he had one year where they regressed and they fired him. Look where it got them. He has gone on record more than once as saying he does not want to play the underdog role again. If he did come back to college football, it would have to be somewhere that he had the athletes. Most people close to him know this because he is loving the NFL-E where he has players that are the same as the opposing teams players and can line up against them and go head to head. Robots vs. Robots so to speak. He never had this at ECU.Paul Johnson is scary because he has a winning record at the Naval Academy. That right there says enough about his coaching ability. Petrino will not leave. No way on Willingham. He is getting things rolling at Washington a little bit and he likes PAC-10 football.Butch Davis is a maybe, not sure what people have said about him really. No way on Mike Leach eiether, or the Rutgers coach.
10/20/2006 12:52:27 PM
i dont see why some dont think logan would go to uncwho says he is happy coaching over seas?
10/20/2006 2:32:32 PM
You can scratch Mike Leach and Bobby Petrino off that list already.
10/20/2006 2:37:29 PM
10/20/2006 3:31:01 PM
logan has repeatedly said that he's happy with his current job with NFL-Europethat said, he knows NC football and could probably recruit the hell outta the state.
10/20/2006 3:35:26 PM
WVU coach has supposedly expressed interest in this...don't know how true this is (just talking with an attorney who's a UNC alum)...but why would he leave a national powerhouse for UNC?
10/20/2006 3:40:30 PM
hahahahahahahahahahahahhahadude is a fucking WVU alum, he's not leaving for UNC[Edited on October 20, 2006 at 4:06 PM. Reason : .]
10/20/2006 4:05:44 PM
yeah, steve logan gets offers all the timethe way he can develpo a qb is unique
