nevermind that china and russia have and are doing or attempting to do the same thing...they aren't shooting lasers up into the sky to blind our satellites on "accident" no matter what they tell you
10/18/2006 12:41:12 PM
i thought that there was already a treaty preventing the militarization of space
10/18/2006 12:49:13 PM
You know our government probably has a warehouse somewhere with weapons designed specifically for blowing satellites out of the sky. So does every other government that has the technological base to do so.

just listened to apollo astronaut edgar mitchell give a talk and he was very vocally against the prospect of the militarization of space when someone asked about the bush administration stance on the issue.he had even written a book about the subject during the reagan presidency.
10/18/2006 3:47:42 PM
OH NO SOMEONE DISAGREES WITH BUSH??????
10/18/2006 3:49:57 PM
This is like the Monroe Doctrine of the 21st century.
10/18/2006 3:50:33 PM
how is the militarization of space any different from having modern weapons on the ground. Plus i would be good money that we already have tons of weapons up there... and am certain we already have defensive weapons, probalby offensive also...

please post all you base to this thread. Seriously though we need to protect our junk up there.
10/18/2006 5:55:50 PM
^ From what?Dude, if there is a country out there that has the capability to shoot our satellites out of space, we're f***ed already, we just don't know it yet. North Korea could not even detonate a 5-gram nuclear bomb underground right, you think they could hit one of our satellites? Heck, in a tightly controlled experiment, the Pentagon can't hit a three-stage missile, and that's less complex than hitting a satellite in space.[Edited on October 18, 2006 at 7:38 PM. Reason : /]
10/18/2006 7:37:26 PM
Seriously, machine guns in space is a great idea.
10/19/2006 8:35:13 AM
^^ Actually, it wouldn't be all that hard to do. Just fire a multi-stage rocket with a nuclear weapon on the tip straight up into the sky and blow away every satellite up there. If the explosion itself doesn't do any damage, then the EMP pulse is going to fry a whole chunk of real estate up there. Sure, it's a crude crap shot, but time it right, and I imagine that it would be suprisingly effective. Why else do you think we hardened our satellites during the Cold War (and probably carelessly stopped hardening them after the Wall came down...).
10/19/2006 9:38:21 AM
All your space are belong to us.
10/19/2006 9:54:08 AM
I wonder if this system has anything to do this, it's pretty much a European GPS that will put the American GPS to shame. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galileo_positioning_system
10/19/2006 10:11:30 AM
americans have a military gps that puts american gps to shame, if i'm not mistaken.
10/19/2006 11:23:23 AM
gps is one of those things we need to protect, and gps is in fact why the europeans are doing their own thing.. our military can "turn it off" in different spots around the world where only their units will work. the europeans are just afaid in the next war or us vs them they'll get lost. But the more dependant we become on these technologies the greater the risk of someone attacking our satelights. and w/ rocketships reaching the ability of the mega rich being able to have their own personal one (x-prize) its conciveable that someone like n.k. or china might try to start a fight w/ us and first knock our our guidance systems. so yes we need guns in space
10/19/2006 6:06:26 PM
^^ They're one and the same. The civilian GPS runs off the military GPS satellite.
10/19/2006 6:19:04 PM
wasn't there supposed to be some big upgrade to gps in america too? (delayed launch until next year i think)
10/19/2006 6:34:09 PM
They are going to lauch a new series of satellites
10/19/2006 6:48:40 PM
we need a good goddamned invasion to set these spoiled ass kids straightits good to own resources you fucking numbshit bitchlets see 10,000 years of warring over resources and you think 40 years of peace means we should concede everything to the "world community" go choke on a cock

10/20/2006 11:00:39 PM
10/21/2006 3:18:33 PM
does the civilian version have the same precision as the military? (perhaps a dumb question, but i'm curious)
10/21/2006 3:30:39 PM
they are both exact
10/21/2006 3:39:25 PM
10/21/2006 6:14:15 PM
^^^Up until fairly recently, the civilian version was intentionally degraded so that the signal was only accurate within a hundred feet or so. That was up until 2000 when Clinton declared it should be availible to the world or some such sillyness.
10/21/2006 7:48:06 PM
well its the only way car navigation systems could work.
10/21/2006 8:25:42 PM
^ Not really. You could very easily do the same thing with radio towers. [Edited on October 21, 2006 at 9:55 PM. Reason : a]
10/21/2006 9:54:37 PM
bullshit. that would be a programming and synchronization nightmare to keep up with the location and strength of radio towers across the US and to then distribute that info dynamically to every receiver in your subscription base.you obviously don't know shit
10/21/2006 10:52:50 PM
There is an interesting relationship between GPS, a relatively new technology, and RFID (Radio Frequency Identification). But I'll address that later. What some of you may want check out is HAARP (High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program), which is based on the work of Nikola Tesla. And before some of you start in, this device is NOT conspiracy theorists' bullshit--it is real. What the array does and can do remain open questions. It is worthy of note that 9-11 is mentioned on the HAARP homepage.http://www.haarp.alaska.edu/http://www.amazon.com/Haarp-Ultimate-Weapon-Conspiracy-Mind-Control/dp/0932813534[Edited on October 22, 2006 at 5:30 AM.
