I'd rather they pick up Girardi (local guy), but I guess they want the big name out there
10/16/2006 8:27:39 PM
well, leave it to the cubs to make crappy decisions
10/16/2006 8:28:57 PM
well girardi definitely showed results, but he didnt get along with the management in florida, and maybe that scares off some of the teams shopping around. still though, i'd take the chance on girardi before i went for piniella.

giradi's been a big league manager for one year. piniella is a proven winner and jim hendry needs to win now. it's not a suprising move by any stretch of the imagination.

but Piniella is a white Dusty Baker, good with veterans but not good with young talent see Tampa. The Cubs are a young team not Marlins young but still young, the next thing the Cubs need to do is buy out Kerry Wood's contract and find some starting pitching.

tampa is totally different situation. their brass wasn't committed to jack squat. the tribsters will spend this year because they are afraid of losing the common ball fan to the white sox and their fans are finally starting to give them the finger.if they can get two good arms to work with zambrano in the lineup, move woody to the bullpen, get a leadoff man, add a solid bat, and keep a-ram at third, then they can easily content to win a mediocre NL Central next year. that's a lengthy laundry list, but it is possible.personally, as a cub's fan, i'd rather have girardi, but i understand the pick. like i said earlier, they want to win now.

its a tough call on piniella to girardi but i am not surprised at all by who they chosei expect to see MAJOR changes on the northside this summer
10/16/2006 10:10:21 PM
yeah, like trading zambrano/lee for kenny rogers and quickly resigning him to a 6 year, $85 million contract. next, going and bringing in juan gonzalez for 4 years / $54 million. this all topped off with "landing" julio lugo from the dodgers for micheal barrett. I hear he's fast.I BELEIVE!
