Herb realized that we were going to suck ass this year and would likely be fired after it, so he took more $ and left. It will take a year or 2 to turn this around, I'm just asking everyone to not be typical state fans. Just be patient for a year or two [Edited on October 16, 2006 at 4:11 PM. Reason : .]

but not with me because I spelled his damn name wrong
10/16/2006 4:07:24 PM
did earl hijack your user name?
10/16/2006 4:08:22 PM
i appreciate this threadI HAVE LOWE EXPECTATIONS!!!!
10/16/2006 4:09:45 PM
haha I am nowhere near dillusional as that moronI guess I am just so happy herb is gone that I want whoever follows him to put him to shame. Mainly because I love state, but a small part because I hated herb
10/16/2006 4:10:49 PM
How could anyone seriously hate Herb? I mean it's one thing to think he is a terrible coach but the guy was as likable a person as they come..
10/16/2006 4:11:38 PM
spelled what name wrong?
10/16/2006 4:12:45 PM
well not as a person, but he made me hate watching basketball.
10/16/2006 4:13:41 PM
Probably going to take longer than a year or two. That said, I'm glad to have hope back.
10/16/2006 4:26:07 PM
^Don't think it should. He's already put together a decent, not great, but decent recruiting class for next year. One or two more are still undecided. We should have good talent in 2-3 years and be able to compete. This year, he gets a free pass, as long as we play hard and have fun. Next year, we should see marked improvement. Year 3 should see us back in contention and getting to the dance.

He gets 7+ years like everyone else
10/16/2006 4:37:18 PM
I have no expectations this year or next year. Any win we have this year is completely unexpected for me.Next year I will care a little, after that its his ass!

Yeah Herb left because we were gonna suck that's it. He didn't leave for $millions. If Herb had stayed he would have had 2 more players and still had 10 players that could see time, plus who knows Ced might have stayed. But I do support this thread....even though many probably won't give him time.
10/16/2006 5:10:19 PM
^herb is not making that much more money when all is said and doneherb left for other reasons....money was not crucial to his decision
10/16/2006 5:18:38 PM
I don't think we'll be horrible this year...it'll be rough for the first couple of months when we only have two guards. And then the ACC will be tough because of a general lack of depth. But we still have a solid starting group (Atsur, Fells, Grant, Costner, McCauley). But yeah, he deserves a few years to put together his program.[Edited on October 16, 2006 at 5:21 PM. Reason : I don't think making the tourney is unrealistic this season]

Most of the games should still be cakewalks. But we do play a few games against upper-conference teams (even if they aren't great) that will be difficult with only seven players.Think about it--we only have two guards. That means in order to rest Atsur or Fells for a few minutes, we have to bring Horner or Bartos off the bench and slide Grant down to a guard spot. And those two guys are also going to be responsible for resting Grant, Costner, and McCauley. The only other option is to bring in Albritton or Nieman...unless Degand gets his waiver, which doesn't seem likely.[Edited on October 16, 2006 at 5:34 PM. where does Ferguson fit into all of this?
10/16/2006 5:39:00 PM
He can't play until after exams in December.
10/16/2006 5:39:39 PM
no fucking shit?
10/16/2006 5:40:29 PM
Yeah.At least he'll be here in time for conference play (except for the one game early...UVA, I think?)
10/16/2006 5:43:15 PM
hahano sane person would fire Herb
10/16/2006 6:38:05 PM
^ you serious?
10/16/2006 7:07:13 PM
dead
10/16/2006 7:09:24 PM
HE GOTHIS COLLEGE DEGREEON-LINE
10/16/2006 7:25:11 PM
i expect a ncaa championship.......otherwise, you've got my vote to fire him
10/16/2006 7:26:58 PM
^^ other than the technicality of that being a requirement for the state job, what the fuck does that have to do w/ coaching basketball?
10/16/2006 7:29:43 PM
IT'S FUCKING PATHETIC, NCSU CAN'T EVEN PULL A FUCKING COLLEGE GRAD TO COACH
10/16/2006 7:30:54 PM
MAYBE I'LL CATCH THEIR ATTENTION WITH LARGE CAPITAL LETTERS.
10/16/2006 7:32:15 PM
you're on to me..... seriously how can anyone claim that it's completely unimpressive to hear that your new basketball coach is "finishing up his degree online".
10/16/2006 7:33:38 PM
Sure, we'll just ignore the fact that he had a job and tons of other things to do.Tons of working folk do online coursework these days.No reason to be elitist just because you aren't good enough at basketball to leave early for the NBA.
10/16/2006 7:35:07 PM
he was what, 23, when he was drafted? you think over the last 23 years he could've figured out how to finish off all 9 hours he had left, just for the self-respect.
10/16/2006 7:36:44 PM
You'd think having a good job and a family would be enough for his "self-respect."
10/16/2006 7:37:18 PM
let's just keep on making excuses for this guy. he's a great role model for his kids, at least.
10/16/2006 7:38:22 PM
I got a wacky idea, stop being a dickhead.[Edited on October 16, 2006 at 8:08 PM. Reason : fds]
10/16/2006 8:08:03 PM
i think we'll be close or right at .500 this year.
10/16/2006 8:43:34 PM
what the hell does a college degree matter when you're making millions?Other than the fact that said piece of paper is a job market requirement, college degrees are highly overrated.
10/16/2006 8:47:17 PM
Madman needs suspending.
10/16/2006 9:03:26 PM
I wonder who madman is an alias for?
10/16/2006 9:11:08 PM
10/16/2006 9:13:11 PM
Madman is a complete moron
10/16/2006 9:13:40 PM
I think madman needs to get me some baby back baby back baby back baby back RIIIIIBS!, cause he surely sounds like a guy that knows where to get them.
10/16/2006 9:17:15 PM
i heard it was because herb is white
10/16/2006 9:36:36 PM
i dont give a fuck if he has an online degree...shit if you werent required to get a degree i wouldnt care if he didnt have one at all....as long as he can coach and win some damn games im happy
10/16/2006 9:39:19 PM
Jesus Christ chill out people. I just find it waaaaaay pathetic that he couldn't finish his college education during his high-profile, superstar status. He probably could've thrown a wad of cash at NCSU and his missing credits would've magically appeared.
10/16/2006 9:39:24 PM
I find it WAAAAYYYY pathetic that people like you have to troll people on a message board about a coach their team hired getting his degree online when the guy was making millions in the NBA and never needed a degree until we decided to hire him.
10/16/2006 10:05:06 PM
the fact that he worked to get his degree so he could coach here is awesome if you ask me.
10/16/2006 10:06:10 PM
amen to that.it'll be refreshing to see a coach run the ball this year!
